Northwest University Professor Under Fire

Somehow I just can't seem to make myself care. I guess my "give a damn" is broken.
Of course, I'm not paying for my son to take that particular class. If I found out I was paying 15 grand a year for my son to watch ****saw demonstrations I'm sure I'd feel differently.
I mean seriously. If you want to see a ****saw in operation you don't need to pay tuition. All you need is an internet connection.

The course was on human sexuality. Don't you think the portion about sex is important to the course?
If porn is important to the course then they should use the internet if they want to view degrading stuff. It seems like the professor just wanted an excuse to ****** at some live action because I don't see how having a woman sexually simulated in front of you could be educational in any way. What was the professor doing during that time anyways?
It was a lecture on the evolution of sexuality. So this included slides, a lecture and a demonstration of different avenues of "self-pleasure." After the demonstration, he had other speakers talk and he proceded to lecture his students. He's also been leading this course for years, so I doubt it was a need to see pornography. Not to mention he handed waivers to all of his students, explaining the content of the lecture, and expressing that it was entirely optional and would have no effect on their standing in the course. What's degrading about this?
The fact that there was no reason to show a live simulation to explain "self-pleasure." Seems the professor can't be that good of a professor if he needs to create a live simulation. It could easily have been explained.
Please don't make unsubstantiated claims. Dr. Bailey is a respected professor, researcher and scientist. He's one of the first researchers to discover the fact that sexuality is inherited and made the ground work for other scientists who eventually discovered the "gay gene." He was the head of the psychology department at Northwestern for 14 years and stepped down only to teach more. He's still employed as a tenured professor in human sexuality and psychology at Northwestern. So I'd say he's proved his knowledge as an educator and the university considers him valuable enough to keep him around to this day.
Gay gene? You do know that's just a theory right?

Maybe Dr. Bailey had a breakdown.
Wasn't his book also criticized by countless scientists and even by biologists?

How did it come to be that depictions of violence are more acceptable than a displaying a woman's bare breasts? Does no one other than I see the inherent flaw in these bizarre lines of thought society has about these things?
Uh... I just said earlier that I agree, and you are from the only person I know that has this point of view. So no, you are not the only one.

What reason? I want to see some speculation here.
There have been blogs written by his students, both past and present, and they claim this type of thing was typical in Dr. Bailey's course. He's taken his class on field trips to transvestite beauty contests, sex shops and gay communities.

Yes, of course, but all I'm saying is that things have gotten a little too out of hand.
Since this is primarily a video game site, I'll use that as an aide. The game Uncharted is rated T and promoted for gamers 13+. In that game you will kill hundreds upon hundreds of people over and over again and the western society has deemed this to be appropriate for that age group. Catherine is an M rated game. That's intended for 18+ players. The game has one scene of death and it only appears if the player takes the story down that route. The rest of the game is entirely constructed around the social relationships between men and women. There's no depiction of sex or intended sex, but there are conversations of it and that's what made it unsuitable for younger audiences.
Sex is very taboo in Western culture, and primarily in the U.S. Until sex is as casual as murder and genocide is here you can't make such a bold claim.

Now that can be thrown out the damn window. Its called having a bit of self control and not being an animal controlled by your urges.
You're an animal, get over it. The majority of people are massively unhealthy, and considering the human organism has mildly changed from the paleolithic era, sex is perhaps the last healthy thing most people engage in. Most people are sedentary, eat food their body isn't intended for and live lifestyles so counter to what the human body is designed for. The result is we have several pandemics existing all over the world, layered one on top of the other and the primary cause is living as if the rules of nature didn't apply to them.
You don't like having sex? Awesome, you found something that works for you as an individual. The majority of the human race acknowledges when their body needs something and are adept enough to figure out what it is. Without the pleasure of sex we wouldn't be here, so it's necessary. In order to further our understanding of nature and the human organism, the study of sex is vital.

You do know that scientific theories aren't just guesses, right?
You do know that he's considered an expect in psychology and human sexuality, right?
You do know that just about every researcher and scientist has people who try to refute their work for the sake of keeping dialogue open about all claims in order to verify evidence, right?

It is a little bit different in Denmark actually (and in a few other Euroean countries I imagine). Most people I know consider depictions of violence significantly more harmful.

You made yourself sound anti-sex all on your own. I posted above that live demonstrations were typical of his course, and this particular lecture was considered extra-curricular. So while this is the first time using live masturbation, it's not the first live demonstration or nude person he's used for his course.

You are right about that. Part of being a student is the experience. You can't be taught something so uncomfortable by watching it on t.v. The class knew what they were signing up for, so there really is no reason to worry about any of that crap. If they didn't want to see something like that, then they shouldn't have signed up. I mean how can you take a class on human sexuality and not see any of it. That is like studying calculus without working any problems. I'd take that course even though my major isn't even in psychology or whatever liberal arts stuff. That sounded awesome; enjoyable class I'd say.

Darwinists faith: Believe that you're mere animals, not anything more ...only instincts and survival matters, neither moral nor else.
Bergson and Toynbee have better interpretation of the Universe and evolution than the whole Darwinism tradition.
Sex has been taboo in all civilized world (don't know about far Brazil or native Australians and forget ancient world). With the help of world wars, nukes, communism, and social engineering it has been erased partially in Europe, China and Japan; and it's a progress toward "Political Correctness"!
lol at sex as healthy act - and humanity's last hope before all humankind be extincted by spinal damage - ! I don't think Exercising be much hard to do (30 minutes per day isn't difficult), being couch potato is an abomination for humankind that has become an opportunity for the sexologists to expand their hedonism!
Sarcasm and Irony, love them for teaching
