Ah yes. My "ignorant" opinions that people should learn useful skills and knowledge that actually contributes to society. I have respect for real psychologists and the work that they do, but *this* isn't real psychology. I rather doubt this "professor" would even acknowledge that there is anything wrong with these individuals. Compared to sex offenders, swingers, etc. I am quite glad that my sexual experiences are "vanilla". We all know that there are many people out there who are downright sick in the head. Yet displays like this accomplish nothing.
Let us be realists here. We both know that most of these students taking a "human sexuality" course aren't there for the most noble of intentions.
When these students graduate and wonder why they have so much college debt and why they can't find a job, I hope they remember taking classes like this. One should always factor in employment opportunity into what they choose to study. And the fact is that this country neds more engineers, more people with technical and mechanical skills, not more experts on sexuality. Knowing the fullest extent that people will degrade themselves to is not necessarily a good thing.
Understanding sexuality does contribute psych field, which does contribute to society. A course subject like this, in theory, should be useful for anyone majoring in psych. The course probably contributes to psych major, on that note. If "lectures" like this are a regular, though, I doubt there's much of to learn from it.
Being interested in studying sexuality doesn't make you perverted, if that's what you're trying to get across. If a student is going just by the name of the class, I doubt they're expecting much titilating material being presented to them. But I'm sure this teacher and his course had a reputation so you're probably right in this case.
I don't think most, if any, of these students are trying to be sex experts, as you're trying to assume. They're probably aiming for a psych major or are taking the class besides their major for fun. And if you're seriously spiting the students for not pursuing the careers you see as ideal for this country I hope you're aware these people have every right to pursue the career of their choice and not be looked down on for it. People will do what they're interested in and what makes them happy, not what you or anyone else wants. None of us are any different so we have no right to belittle them for it.
