Sure, I believe in the Indoctrination Theory and all, but why do people think Coats is indoctrinated? He's pessimistic sure, but how could he even be indoctrinated. Even though he said he was trapped in Big Ben sniping down everything that moved, it still doesn't make sense, Reaper ground forces can't indoctrinate, so why?

I just saw it on lots of threads, and how he was used as a rat against Anderson.

Because people want indoctrination to explain everything..

its a coping mechanism... no problem what works for them...

remember speculations for everyone

I've never seen anyone arguing about Coates. Dude has about as much screentime as Kelly Chambers, what would be the point of making him indoctrinated?

Because apart from the fact he is too slick and clean for someone who's been in the thick of battle, he's always a downer, gives reasons why things are not possible, and I find his discussion with Shepard to be creepy.

Everyone looked clean.  Hell, the Cerberus Troopers are dirtier, because they have scratches and dirt on their armor.

Because even as newer info/clues are becoming harder and harder to come by, people still feel the compulsion to satiate their need for additional evidence. It all boils down to his radio call saying that the "entire force was decimated" even though Shep & Andy are still alive, and the fact that he's seen sitting next to one of those lightning bolt signs similar to the ones you see in the scenes of pre-ghost ghost kid. Its also seen as "suspicious" that he's the main subject of the first ME3 trailer, yet has such a seemingly minor role in the game itself. All other trailers for these games feature the main characters as subjects, except this one (though sunflower girl has yet to make an appearance, my guess is because female children don't exist in the Mass Effect universe. Plot hole). Tenuous at best, in my opinion, but it's a possibility. Maybe someone else can explain it better than I can, since I'm still on the fence about IT, even if I lean towards it.

Is Major Coates indoctrinated? That's a definite maybe.

The latter may be true, but I understnd why you might not be too bright when trying to destroy a Destroyer with a few missiles, even if they are really powerful.

Well, Coates is the one delivering "the entire team has been decimated" line, including your squadmates. You know the rest.

Wasn't he meant to be charging up there with the rest of us? the path looked pretty clear when i woke up. Coates chickened out at the very least now i think about it.

He's on screen like a minute or two seems a bit of wishful thinking that he's indoctrinated.

As someone who sincerely hopes that the IT is true, I need to say that the supporters really need to refine their arguments. There are a number of arguments I've seen that are fairly compelling. Shepard waking up in what looks like London after the "Destruction Wave" and the Citadel exploding should have killed him? Good stuff. Shepard's Husk-like appearance and TIM/Saren-esque glowing eyes during the Control and Sythesis ending(s)? Good stuff. "Oily shadows" in Shepard's dreams? Good stuff.

But this Coats thing just seems like a desperation grab. It's not the weakest thing I've seen; it has a little bit more to go on than people seeing parts of the Mako on the Citadel, or Vega hearing a humming noise on the Normandy. But this still seems reletively weak. IT folks need to stick to the better stuff; grasping at straws will only give nay-sayers a reason to dismiss them

Same.  lol  I just figured Coats was one of the few tough bastards who survived nearly everything the Reapers could throw at him.

From what i've seen it's not an argument FOR indoctrination theory. It's further speculation incorporating indoctrination. I haven't seen any evidence myself for him being indoctrinated, but there is an added bit of doubt there because really he was meant to be charging to the citadel like you and Anderson. Where was he?
