Suicide Mission vs Priority Earth

Although those final words with squad mates were incredible to say the least. One thing Priority: Earth did better.
Overall though Suicide Mission, by a long shot.

Priority: Earth is not a bad level, but it's rubbish for THE final level of the entire trilogy. That the last thing Shepard does is defend a truck from cannon-fodder while the equivalent of a Reaper henchman fires lasers at him/her is absolutely ridiculous.
The environments are also terrible and underwhelming compared to the final stages from ME1 or ME2.
I'm not going to get into the magic elevator and the abomination that follows.

- The Long Walk
- MFin' THANIX CANNON
- Jack Struggling to keep the Seeker Swarm off the party, and then letting all hell loose.
- Never knowing if or when a Squaddie might get killed. Nail biting for 45 minutes.
- Inspirational Speeches
- Wave after wave of platforms. Those damn Scions. Not knowing when it would end.
- Music!!! Even the final boss music.
- Giving TIM the finger
- Watching my LI slide and almost fall off a platform.. I screamed for her.
- Edge of my seat during the Normandy escape. Would they make it out alive??
- I need a cigarette.
- Where's the music?
- Why is everyone saying goodbye? We're gonna do this. Where's the optimism, guys?
- Where are my forces and assets? Is it really just us out here?
- Oh look, another Destroyer. Really?
- Wait, I just got hit by a beam. I'm injured?! How am I going to finish the game if I can't move??
- No, they can't... they... couldn't.
- Mouth wide open.
[*]this - pretty much plus on me3's - 'Shoot the Reaper with the Cain, ok seems pointless but ok.....:oWTF!!'

My favourite, most uplifting and emotionally rewarding moment in any entertainment medium ever
Priority Earth:
My least favourite, most depressing and emotionally draining moment in any entertainment medium ever.

Suicide Mission gave me these:
A sense of accomplishment!
-What upgrades you spend on the Normandy: Shielding, boosters, Thanix Cannons to prevent players dying during the raid.
-Team's Loyalty Mission and Specialist traits = some strategy and a sense of immersion that every life matter.
-Motivating Speeches: Almost makes you want to not turn back on the mission.

Keeps building layers and layers of anticipation and excitement... every epic moment keeps getting overshadowed by the next one.... getting to the base, fighting off the ships, landing, saving team members, the platforms, the reaper, the choice... culminating in an explosive finale with the most epic cutscenes I've ever seen
Priority Earth -
Starts downbeat and depressing. No epic music. Proceeds to become more downbeat and depressing all the way to end and then finishes with a wet fart.

Get the feeling this is gonna be waaaaaay one sided. But what did people think wus a better game finale mission?
Like myself, I reckon most people are gonna say the suicide missions, so if you think that, what was Priority: Earth missing that the Suicide Mission did so well? Where did Priority Earth fall short?
I personaly way prefer the suicide mission, felt like everything you'd done the whole of ME2 was building and amounting to something, which is more that I can say for the war assets in ME3 which we didn't even see.
What ya'll reckon?
- feeling victorious
- being able to hear opinion on your decision from squaddies
- being able to finally do some cuddling with your LI, ie rest for a while
- hearing words of gratitude from saved crew
- epic music in place of sad, artistic piano
- getting a feeling of enterint the heart of darkness instead of a WTF corridor
- choosing people to do stuff
- a three parter, each part feeling different and awesome for different reasons
- yes, I liked the bossfight, and the only thing I facepalmed was hearing "not just any
- Harby's last words are his best lines ever
Suicide Mission is the peak of gaming experience for me, with adrenaline levels reaching top levels every single time I play through it, and me not be even able to sit on my chair while watching the last cutscenes.
Priority: Earth has nothing of SMs charm, maybe besides really good goodbye to the team.

Suicide mission. It had emotion & a true sense of urgency & combat. Priority Earth was just CoD in Space/ME, and BioWare couldn't even do that well. At least CoD did it properly and it was hella fun.
ME3's attempt at trying to win over the COD market was pretty poor. Didn't do enough to bring in new fans and isolated old fans with the new direction.

They're almost breaking the tradition that way. People thought it was impossible to get to Saren on Ilos. Shepard proved them wrong. They thought it was impossible to do anything against the Collectors. Shepard proved those pansies wrong and utterly destroyed the Collectors.
At the end of ME3, Shepard isn't doing anything to beat the odds or solve it in a way nobody saw coming. The Starchild has three solutions and he's feeling kind enough to let Shepard pick which one.
Shepard has no choice to object to the kid's idiotic logic or to be reluctant about killing himself to save everyone, just because the LEADER AND CREATOR OF THE REAPERS said so.

Priority Earth. First time i played i was sat on the edge of my seat hoping i had done enough prep work going in and praying i made the right selections with my team placement....Five minutes later i realised that my prep work and placement made no difference and i was fighting my way down a long street. I went from playing Mass effect to playing FFXIII....
Hope Bioware are reading this one, four pages in and not one person prefers Priority Earth.
In fact comparing the two endings has made me even un happier with the ending for ME3. Forget changing the ending from charging Harbinger to get to the beam, the whole final act from the start of Priority Earth needs to be scrapped and re done.

Suicide Mission
Pros: Epic finale, your choices matter, squadmates have roles, feeling of accomplishment.
Cons: Baby Arnold, some choices feel arbitrary.
Priority Earth
Pros: Erm...
Cons: Dull and boring, nothing you have done matters or changes things, characters behave like idiots, the driving premise is idiotic, the most memorable moments are unintentionally comedic ("STEEVE!!" "Auuuurreegghhhh!!!"), you feel like you've done nothing of value.
^^ This.

Priority: Earth has its moments, like the goodbye talks, but the SM has an equally strong buildup and your choices in ME2 are actually of consequence for its outcome. Finally, ME2's endings can all be called victories of some sort or another (even a pyrric one, like the one where you die), as opposed to ME3's ending(s) where even the best ending is barely better than a pyrric victory.

I mean, is there really any competition? Just played the Suicide Mission again for maybe the 11th time and I never fail to shout with glee at this moment -
"You have failed. We will find another way. Releasing control."
And then the wave of fire rolls over the Collector General as it snatches a final glance backwards before the Normandy speeds on in the nick of time.
I never got anything like that with Priority: Earth, not even close. All if felt was anger and confusion.
Why? Because you should be able to f*cking win a game.

The Suicide Mission is a lot better in almost every other way. I was more pumped and exciting going into the Collector Base to save my entire crew from those bastards then I was about saving Earth. Earth meant nothing to me other then "OMG I'M FROM EARTH!". I had a lot of reasons for saving Kelly Chambers, the engineers, Dr Chakwas and the rest.
The first time I played the SM I was in a right state, due to the fear of losing my comrades (particularly after I did lose one) and being stuck miles from any aid on a mission that very much had a one-way feel about it. I felt nothing in Priority: Earth although in that case I already knew what was coming (I'd heard too many ending rumours and ended up reading spoilers). And as has been said before the SM handled the rest of your squad infinitely better, they were all doing something towards the mission.
Edit to add: As impressive as all the space shooty stuff in ME3 was nothing made me cheer like I did when the Normandy took out the Collector cruiser.

Priority: Earth had those final conversations with your squadmates, which were really done well across the board, and something I really would have liked to see in the earlier games. So it beats the SM in that.
Everything other aspect, though? Doesn't even come close to the SM.

At the end of both, your "choices" were narrowed into two (or three) options that were there completely regardless of what you did before.
If you hated Priority: Earth because it took your choices away, you should be equally enraged by the Suicide Mission for doing THE EXACT SAME THING.
That said, I liked the Suicide Mission far better because it actually... made something resembling sense and had an epic, culminating feel to it. You understood why the Collector Base was important, and why you had to go there.
Making Earth the focus point of ME3 felt arbitrary. Why did the Reapers care to make it the "center" of their forces? Could have just as easily been Palaven, or Thessia, or Rannoch, or hell some uninhabitable world off in the middle of nowhere.
