I just did the sacred ashes quest first,and I found the unbound codex, however I went to the quaint howle and it remains locked. What am I supposed to do?

You need all three clues to open the quest.
Brecillian Forest has an adventurer, Ruins has one, Orzammarr has a shell shocked dwarf in the tavern. Get all three.

oh. My friend and I are sort of racing to see who's PC will be more effective. I wanted the fade wall/keening blade,and he already had it, and said he only got one entry.
