Hi folks,
Something's gone weird with NWN2 for me - it only happens in indoor areas, but all of a sudden (it might have been when I installed Win7 a couple of months ago, but its hard to be sure) when the camera's at certain angles, the entire screen goes white. Blooming annoying it is.
It might just be random chance, but it seems like its worse toward the edge of indoor areas, and for a while I thought switching darkvision off (for those with it) got rid of the problem.
I've just tested it to see if I can make head or tail of the logic behind it & for one charatcer - a high level elven cleric / fighter - all's fine, regardless of darkvision on or not. For my regular testing character - 15th level human monk - its as bad as ever, but definitely worse at the edge of the map. My son made a small adventure earlier with one outside & one inside area & with a character he made it was the same - blinding white screen for almost every camera angle when in his small indoor mine area.
Anyone got any ideas?
Also - just tested an orc lair I'm working on & for some reason all of the 'outside' of each room - the area of the screen that's usually pitch black, is suddenly totally white. The other interior area in my test mod is fine, apart from theproblem above for some characters.
I've been playing with the light settings to see what effects I can get, so maybe I've set something or switched something on/off that I should have left alone?
Any ideas will be gratefully received.
Cly.
Its all gone white!

I'm probably saying something stupid, but have you updated your graphics card's drivers lately? There have been problems with some versions in the past, though this is probably something different.

Thanks Arkalezth - I was wondering that too, but according to wondows, the driver was installed april last year, so I'm guessing its not that. Is apparently the most recent one too.
Gorath - thanks for that, this was just a quick question to see if anyone else had encountered the same issue - especially since the only variable that had changed was installing Win7 64bit - I'll examine the issue more thoroughly & post my system specs if I don't solve it.

White area fog? Iirc one of my Path of Evil areas also had this problem with the white flashes. The only thing I was able to come up with was there was a bright light in the area roughly where the game camera would often be.

Now that I read the word "fog", I remember all gone white the first time I played Misery Stone (about two years ago?). I think it was the drivers. If all else fails, if you have the last version, I'd suggest trying to roll back to an older one, some people had to do that then.
As I said, it's probably unrelated, but it's the closest I've seen in the game,

Kamal, Arkalezth - thanks for the ideas - maybe its some kinda weird interplay between Win7 & my graphics drivers.
I tried out White plume mountain yesterday & the first underground part ran fine - so now I'm thinking that I've got some kinda weird setting in my interior areas - I've not been doing much playing of other people's mods for a while - all my NWN time is spent building - not sure what it is but I had a quick go on my first adventure - Goldenspire - that's never had any problems before & once I got into the dungeon, the screen was blinding white from pretty much every angle too - so I'm now thinking that there's some setting I've changed that switches the lights out (I hate well lit dungeons :0)) but for some reason now its making everything white.
On the good side, the interior part of WPM I tried was the same effect I'm trying for - nice & dark - so I'll see about importing the settings & see what happens.

Bit of an update - the problem's partially solved. I just loaded up a save of Kings Festival & in the Orcs caves the white screen of death is present at some camera angles when my PC has darkvision on, but is fine with it off.
So since its not likely my underground settings causing the problem, I've just been through the graphics settings, switching everything off & systematically switching each option back on to see if anything produces the white screen.
And the winner is:
Point Light Shadows
Switched off, every place I've had the problem with works fine.
So that's good.
However, still seem to have a seperate problem with white 'fog' in my orc lair - everything outside of mapped indoor areas being bright white instead of black, and I noticed a bit of a white fog effect in the distance in long corridors - but nowhere else, even in previous saves of the mod I'm building - so I'm guessing that I've messed up a light setting somewhere in the toolset while I was customising it - hopefully also easily fixed.

We're all resolved now - I imported the area variables from a previous version of the orc lair that had gone all white misty into my working copy of the mod I'm building & all's now good - no white mistyness to be seen - everything's back to the regular black colour.
What with that & the point shadows being switched off, everything's now working fine - although I'm still tempted to find a way to get that enabled again.
