Which weapon mods are useful for squadmates?

First of all I'm terribly sorry if this already has been discussed, but my forum searches gave me nothing. Also, my english might be a bit rusty but I hope the following post is understandable.

I'm just wondering if e.g. increased stability has any effect on the squad mates. When I did my first playthrough as a soldier (veteran, then I went hardcore about halfway through the game) the stability weapon mods helped me keep the vindicator steady, but squad mates already seem insanely accurate with weapons so I can't see how it makes any difference. Will squad mates do more damage with increased accuracy or is it a "waste" of an upgrade slot?

I just want a few pointers on how to upgrade my squad’s weapons. If anyone's wondering I'm doing an insanity run with an adept. I usually play with Javik and EDI but I try to change things up from time to time.

Should I upgrade Javik's assault rifle (atm I'm using the particle rifle) with damage and penetration mods, or would he even gain the effects of stability and precision mods? Should I just stick to extended barrel and piercing mods?

As for EDI, I just found the scorpion pistol on Sur'Kesh and I want to have her try it out. Will the pistol piercing mods affect the explosions caused by the scorpion projectiles? Will the explosions penetrate thin cover would the explosive part override any modifications made to the scorpion?

Also I'm thinking of using Ashley when she comes back as a squadmate, so which of the sniper rifle mods are useful for squad mates? I'd guess the sniper concentration mod is only useful for the extra damage it does and not the time dilation effect. I'd also wager that the scope mods do absolutely NOTHING for sniping squad mates - but again this is JUST a guess and I have nothing to back it up with.

Basically: there are a number of weapon upgrades available which modify certain properties. Which if these upgrades (and the properties affected by them) are only meant to benefit the player and which ones are of any kind of use for the squad mates?

Looking forward to any helpful replies :)

EDIT: Woah, pasting the text from microsoft word turned out to be agreat way to fudge the text up.. Fixed some formating..

Stability, scope and clip enlargement mods are useless on them. They are more accurate than you are and seemingly never run out of ammo, even if they do need to reload. So the only useful ones are the piercing and damage bonus mods.

Scorpion benefits nicely from ammo bonus from what I've heard, so feel free to use them. But be careful, their aim with that particular pistol is abysmal, missing almost all the time. The only one who used it accurately was Kirrahe.

You're right, don't waste concentration mod on squadmate snipers.

I will run an Insanity with my Adept soon - I did it with an Infiltrator already, so I advise that you better get ready for tears and rage. I don't have Javik, but EDI and Liara are glass cannons. If you bring them along, you better kill the enemy before they even start firing, or they can go down very quickly. Tali is fragile as well, but she has Energy Drain at least.

I advise you bring either the lightest weapons and focus on Biotic Blasts or bring out the heavy hitters (Black Widow and Carnifex).

The mods useful for you: concentration mod, stability, scope, accuracy, clip size, melee bonus.

Useful for everyone: piercing and damage bonus.

There are posts that say the ammo clips help the squadmates who use the particle rifle because of its' unique firing.

Shredder and Barrel extension. Always, and on every gun.

What I found useful was the extended barrel, since squadmates do less damage then the player. Extended magazine (only on weapons like the saber and other low capacity guns). The shredder and Piercing mods are decent for dealing with Guardians and Cannibals who have been buffed by Marauders. Scopes and Stability mods don't really do them any good.

Anything that either improves damage, gives them cover penetration, or increases the number of shots before reload seem to help. Accuracy mods seem near useless.

Squadmates are there for their banter and the powers they give you - everything else about them is not worth the time. Personally I am quite happy when they don't act like suicidal morons every time a harvester or ravanger shows its face ;)

Primarily, weapon damage and weapon piercing. Expanded heat sinks *do* help, in that the squadmates do reload, and increasing the period between reload animations means they deal more damage over time.

Accuracy enhancements don't matter. Melee enhancers don't matter. Even if you're taking Vega along all the time (and he does get into melee combat more than the other squaddies), putting a melee enhancement on his shotgun is less useful than one of the three above.

+1

The expanded clips help primarily on weapons like the Scorpion or Falcon, where your squad would have to be reloading every few shots.  And of course on the Particle Rife, where it's practically mandatory.  If you tell your squad to focus on a big enemy (like a banshee), they will pretty much fire until the clip is empty.  For the Particle Rifle, the extended clips will give them more time where they are firing the super-powered beam.

Everything else, stick with the AP/Shredder and heavy barrels.

Woah - thanks for all the replies! It's a bit of a shame the squadmates don't benefit from most weapon mods at all..

As for the tips you gave me LordSerion, thanks! :) At the moment my Adept is specced around double pull double throw biotic explosions and everything is working out great for me! I just played the mission introducing Ravagers (I forget what it's called, the one with Grunt) and I did very well! I brought Javik and Vega with me just to try out the double particle rifle combo (penetration and magasine size mods on both of them) and i think Javik and Vega could have completed the mission by themselves. They did not seem to need my crazy biotic explosions at all!

Anway, thanks again for the replies!
