As a brazilian, I would like to see more of Brazil in Mass Effect universe. Only thing that I remember is that both Shepard and Ashley attended at Macapa Boot Camp, but it's not clear if that camp was on the actual city or just named after.

They didn't have a soccer scene in ME3; no need for a Brazilian character in there. :wizard: Of course is there was an MMA-style scene I'd expect Brazil to have at least some kind of repre-

Oh wait, Vega fights Shepard. Vega is Hispanic and slips in a Spanish word every now and then, so consider the entire southern hemisphere covered when it comes to representation. Really. That's more than you get in most games.

Same thing with Native Americans. Javik reps hunter-gatherers with his magical tracking abilities.

At least we did not got a Blanka as brazilian representative (altought Blanka is cool).

About soccer, in any of the games the Codex says something about sport in XXII century Earth or even for alien races?

Haha! Blanka. At least your SF dude has magical lightning abilities and isn't a goddamn luchador. Because everyone from Mexico loves wrestling, apparently. Actually...nevermind...

Something tells me though that Brogans (a word I've coined) and Salarians would be good at futbol for very different reasons.

supposedly Ashley is hispanic. So that's two, and I think Cortez is too.

I just don't see what would be hard about having the NPC's skin color more varied.

Ashley is not. That's a dirty, dirty lie. No, it can't be true. NO. Nuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

Wait, her last name is Williams. Whew! That was a close one.

So? Vega was almost called Sanders.

I don't think it was said in game what Ashley's race/ethnicity was. I personally think both Ashley and Kaidan are mixed-race, since they were designed back when the concept for Mass Effect was that the majority of humans were supposed to be mixed-race. They threw that out the window in ME2. Miranda, Kelly, Zaeed, was there anyone on the Normandy aside from Jacob and Kasumi that wasn't super-white?

I bet most people in this thread doesn't know that Miranda was intended to be a Norwegian :)

Her original family name was Solheim - and she was blonde.

Khalisah Bint Sinan al-Jilani. Her part is small and not very flattering in the first two installments, so I'm glad she gets at least two chances for vindication in ME3.

ME did need more examples than just Khalisah, Samantha, and the widower from way back in ME1.

No, there didn't need to be more equal representation of the hundreds of different Earth cultures - People don't play science fiction games full of aliens to spend their time high fiving multicultural cameos of the human species and frankly if people weren't so goddamn up their butt and over sensitive about that kind of crap we may have seen Alien species in ME that wasn't almost entirely homogeneous.

Where are the Turians with different accents? Aren't there any secular Hanar? Let me see some Charitable volus! But good god don't waste time giving me more humans, I see humans every day.

All Poland got was a warship named after Warsaw, why should India get preferential treatment over other nation? I thought it was fine the way it was little mentions and accents here and there to show various cultures on earth, primarily Canadian though :-), not that I'm complaining.

According to Mass Effect Wiki, her name is Arabic. All I know is her appearance and her name suggest she's descended from the (generalized and sprawling)"Middle Eastern" regions. Maybe the OP wanted Indian nationality specifically, but I'm not sure.

Oh, my female Shepard also happens to be half-Arabic and half-African. She could stand to see more humans from the former half of her heritage! :)

All over the place. Don't you remember Li, the mechanic from Turian-Jersey?

There could always be a little more multiculturalism, but all things considered, the ME series does seem to have a pretty diverse cast. Just looking at human squad members other than Jack:

Kaiden - Ukrainian
Ashley - supposedly Brazilian
Jacob - African-American
Kasumi - Japanese
Zaeed - Arab-British
Vega - Hispanic
Miranda - Australian (white, but hey, Australian nonetheless)

in addition to Cortez, Traynor and other squadmates. Much better than the "everyone's Anglo" approach of some other games.

We need more Eskimos.
There aren't enough Eskimos represented.

Actually now that I think about it, there were very few cats as well.

I think Bioware must hate cats.

Also cakes, slippers, whiteboard markers, carpet cleaners.

Why do people make a big deal about stuff that wasn't in the game, like it was some sort of secret, racist, agenda?

Yeah, because all the most compelling works of fiction methodically check boxes to make sure one of every demographic group is present.

You know, like sexual harassment training videos.

I wasn't being fully serious, I just hate Ashley so much that the thought of even vaguely being in the same genetic grouping as her would make me sad.

Like this version better than the other Miranda.

No one's actually making that big of a deal. Did you bother reading the thread? A lot of people were commenting on how diverse the games are compared to others. Watch LOTR and tell me how many Africans you see.

And no, Orcs don't count.

Well I'm Indian and I found a dog tag on Normandy SR1 with a name suspiciously similar to mine. And my surname's pretty uncommon too.

I think the dog tags were actually very diverse. My initial thoughts on the originals of the names (no Chinese, though, which I found surprising):-

Abishek Pakti = Indian
Addison Chase = English
Alexei Dubyansky = Russian
Amina Waaberi = East African
Carlton Tucks = English
Caroline Grenado = Spanish
Germeen Barret = Arabic first name
Harvey J. Gladstone = English
Hector Emerson = English
Helen M. Lowe = English
Jamin Bakari = West African
Mandira Rahman = Indian
Monica Negulesco = Spanish? Portuguese?
Orden Laflamme = French
Raymond Tanaka = Japanese last name
Robert Felawa = West African
Rosamund Draven = English
Silas Crosby = English
Talitha Draven = English

Of course, they could all be Canadian and work at a company in Edmonton.
