I installed patch 1.02 and now when I try to start the game it says "game can't launch because of a misconfiguration, please reinstall game and try again". I'm reluctant to do this since I purchased the EA store digital download and as far as I recall I can only install the game a limited number of times. Does anyone have a suggestion as to what I should do?

I should state that I've had no problems before installing the patch and have logged in around 100 hours of gameplay. Utterly beffudled to have this happening.

Is there anyway to unpatch after patching without uninstalling the game? I was quite happy with my game as it was!

Had the same issue last night.  Spent about 2+ hours reinstalling the game and fighting with the awc.dll error.  The rescans mentioned do not help.  After much swearing, I did manage to get this nonesense to work.

N.b: I am using a D2D version of the game, patched from vanilla to v1.02.  I don't know how well this works for other versions:

1. Go into the bin_ship folder in your Dragon Age directory.
2. Make a copy of your EACore_App.ini file.  Put it somewhere you can readily find in case this doesn't work for you...ex. desktop etc.
3.  Open up the EACore_App file that's in the bin_ship folder with notepad.  Select all the text and delete.  Save the file.  It should be empty.
4. Try starting the game from the launcher.

I hope this works for you!

I don't think so because just from looking at the patch install it overwrites the current game files.  Unless Bioware puts out a revert/rebuild type patch (which they have done in the past for NWN),  you'll have to reinstall unfortunately.

just uninstall and reinstall the game...patching it the patch you were used to...your saves will stay and you don't even need to back them up.

I have the same problem with the Direct2Drive version, personally I'm just going to patch up to 1.01b and wait for Bioware to release the next patch. Their loss if new DLC isn't compatable.

What exactly does "couldn't load the game" mean? The play button doesn't work? The shortcut is broken? More details would be helpful if you want anything other than people shrugging.

hehe sorry just irritated i cant play this game. the play button doesnt work, just like the 101a patch problem. it does appear the newer patches update the c++ drivers or whatever but it still doesnt work. vanilla works fine. 101a, play button no work. 101b, play button no work. 102, play button no work. trying to install the drivers directly from M$ but it keeps trying to access a temp file that doesnt have the .msi file.
running win xp.
been trying to manually install this dang vcredist_x86.exe file for over  a half hour now, no luck getting it to install (

did you save the vcredist_x86 or tell it to run? And did you do a full windows update?

oh well just going to un install and play vanilla. disappointed in bioware and will be very leery to ever buy another game from them, especially since they teamed with EA. thanx for the help.

Leebruk Im having the same problem with my friends computer. I absolutly think that has something to do that has a custom WindowXP installed. I can't fix it not as hard as I can. Installing from my original copy of the game. I'm going crazy too.

I'm having the same issue. Just installed the game today, played a bit without patching, decided to patch to 1.02 and now the game won't play. Window's updates are all current, and the vcredist_86 file won't install so I don't know if that will help. I also can't seem to even find the EACore_App.ini file to try that method, I did a search of the whole harddrive and came up with nothing.

Any ideas?

I had this same problem after installing patch v. 1.02 -- would not start the game, would give me a misconfiguration error pop-up. I reinstalled the game and once again the same problem. I reinstalled a 3d time, no patch -- back to working fine. What a lousy patch program!
