I found a stupidly simple way to solve this problem free from all the technical crap around now days
Go to this sitehttp://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=766a6af7-ec73-40ff-b072-9112bab119c2&displaylang=en
And try one of the download links (whichever applies to your pc) If like me you had no idea try all 3 until one works
