I despise rap for what it is.

And, can you really support something with such negativity and...crudeness playing such a heavy part of it's lyrical content?

I have somewhat...eclectic music tastes, from this to this to this.

Today's music summed up in one song:

Y U PICK BAD RAP "ARTIST"?!:pinched:

Should I have picked Labrinth (their earthquake single gives me a headace) or Professor Green (I don't care if your mother wasn't there for you. STFU) instead? They suck just as much.

I had no clue who either of those people were until just now, apparently they suck though. I try to listen to good rap artists.

Me thinks he's uneducated about Rap music. No one can say they respect music and listen to Asheru, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Wu-Tang, or Nas and say the entire genre is bad.

Give me one good rap song then. Rap consists of a man simply talking fast and often swearing. I've listened to all the so-called top rap artists over here in the UK and America and there's nothing beautiful about their songs (as music is meant to be), there's nothing thought provoking about them, there's no melody to them and there's certainly no talent in them.

The state of music is always bad. Take a look at the top 10 for, say, the 60s. What songs *were* massive hits are not the songs we remember as being the songs of that generation.

My point proven. Rap consists of a guy just talking fast. If you call that music...then I guess anything goes nowadays.

Intentionally ignoring the messages within the songs I see. I was just giving you examples of pretty good new rap songs, if you want to trivialize the genre that's your business.

If that's going to be your atitude, being stubborn for the sake of being stubborn, then you'll never experience anything outside of you limited scope. Rap is by no means new, it's been around for over 40 years. People also forget that Punk and Rap came out of the same underground communities in the 70's to serve the same purpose.

I call it poetry that goes well with a beat, and that beat and it's poetry is music, so yes I would call Rap music.

And if you want a good Rap here is a great one. And hey look he is not talking fast.:P

Lulz. Talk about an oversimplification - you're fooling yourself if you honestly think no more effort goes into making rap music than simply "talking fast and swearing" (and this is coming from someone who doesn't even really like rap all that much).

But you've never been one to consider anyone else's opinion other than your own, so I won't waste any more of my time.

I'm probably gonna have to say C.R.E.A.M. because it deals with that gangsta aspect of rap that made it sound so dark and harsh. A lot of rappers tried to do it, but Wu-Tang were one of the first to get it right. Not to mention they made the template for skits in albums, so they deserve a lot of respect in rap altogether.

N.Y. State Of Mind part 1 & 2 are two of the darkest songs I've ever heard in my life, and one mic is one of the most inspirational songs ever written. It's still amazing that the same person wrote both songs

I think a lot of people have too many misconceptions about things they know nothing about. There are plenty of talented rappers that aren't gangsta rappers, like Mos Def, Common and Black Thought but are so good at rhyme schemes that rival most literary poets. Then there's the misconception that listening to Gangsta Rap means you condone the rappers history and experience. Completely negating the fact that most famous musicians of every genre have dark lives filled with violence, drugs, abuse and broken lives. It's par for the course of the artist to have lives that are tragic in nature. There would be no good songs is all musicians were happy and well balanced people with no problems.

I secretly hope he's working on another album on the level of Illmatic in secret and releases it to smash all of the other crap rap albums people can't shut up about. I'm looking at you Niki Minaj

Eminem has been kind of meh as of late, in my view. Don't get me wrong I love that he is still in the game, I just want him to step up his game some more.

As for Niki Minaj she just needs some better songs and she would be such a better rapper.:?

@andrpod654 Right you are, most people have little to no clue on what Rap really is.

And Yeah Gangsta Rap, good Gangsta Rap that is, should be the way it is. More so if other genres can get away with all that dark stuff. It's also really interesting to me since I have always loved in an odd way, just how "dark" peoples lives are and for them to talk about it in a rap or song? it moves me.

People don't have a problem with violence in general. People have a problem with songs about rape, about killing women in multiple ways...that kind of stuff. Not violence in and of itself, violence that's only there to be offensive.

Kind of like someone I know was telling me about a group called GWAR who's schtick is basically to be offensive: they have fake ****** and vomit poured onto the crowd at their concerts.

I think a song about burning alive the woman who rejected you fits in the same category *looks at Eminem*.

Steve Tyler co-wrote that song. Not a lot of people know that. Personally I think Eminem's one of the handful of rappers who's grown through his music. His writing began being a massively violent psychopath and now he reads like a recovering anger junkie. It's thought provoking if you go over his serious pieces over his career.

Nicki Minaj is just... With artists like her being popular hating rap becomes understandable. I've heard she's thinking of retiring after some negative feedback though.
