Music was good before, but that doesn't mean it's bad now. I wouldn't even say most music is bad. Then again, I'm not picky. However, I think there's plenty of good music out there. You just have to look.

There's a few specks of gold in the pile of garbage, yes, but I don't feel like sorting through the crap.

Go look at a list of top-rated songs in your favorite genre. Search some of 'em. Follow the links from that song.
Repeat.

Took you like 30 minutes, and you've got yourself an albums worth of songs.

You say it like it's hard to look through the garbage.

I don't really have a favorite genre..

I do look for songs related to ones I like, but most of them are 20+ years old..

And I do not enjoy putting my eardrums through ritual sacrifice.

Yeah you won't even notice the gold if all you expect is more crap

Indeed. Trying to endure all the crap desensitizes you.

Good job changing my point to make me agree with you.
Watch the South Park episode where Stan hears nothing but crap on his birthday and you'll see exactly what I mean

Just remembered that song
Justin Timberlake - What Goes Around... Comes Around[/quote]

Something of a tragic ending in this video, but the illustration is clear if you bother to pay attention. He doesn't want her to die, but rather her self-destructive nature finally took over.

If people are willing to pay attention for more than five seconds and dig beneath the surface, the use of symbolism in art is quite clear.

Some music is intended to put down. Also, you gotta luv all the self-piety music ;)

Yeah, I don't make a habit of listening to that kind of stuff.

It's in a similar vein of trying to redefine the "classic" love-song, but his independent stuff is clearly more sophisticated and adult than his other stuff.

So close minded and you call yourself a musician?
I hate to see people turning down your stuff just because they don't agree with your message.
Thats like the only Radiohead song I can stand.

I don't think the intent was for you to think that about yourself. A lot Radiohead's songs are commentary about "average" people...  I think I've said too much.

I'm not close-minded. We were talking about songs that are meant to be depressing. I have no interest in such things.

And it really doesn't matter to me if people listen to my music. I don't write music because I want people to listen to it, I write music because I have to. It's part of me.

That's the only Radiohead song most people can stand. They were kind of a one-hit wonder. Lol.

Try
something a bit random and a bit more rough. Lol.

Yeah, it's not like they're one of the best award winning rock bands and have another album coming out this year.

Your library must be tiny.
I can't think of a single artist besides maybe Rebecca Black who doesn't have at least one sad or "bad" song.
ANd with her I'm using the term artist very loosely.  LOL :o I don't even have to listen to what you do to already be bored of it.

Radiohead.

Are the guys from Savatage even alive? They're probably living at the same retirement home Billy Idol is staying at.

Just because they won awards doesn't mean a lot of people have to like them.
Look at the Music awards.  They only acknowladge Green Day and Foo Fighters for Rock awards

Pain is core part of the human experience. I don't think I would like someone who was incapapble of understanding any kind of pain.

I don't feel depressed listening to that Radiohead song.

I know one passed some time ago,  I can't speak for the others.

Who said the artist had to be alive for you to enjoy their music? Bach beats the hell out of Radiohead. Lol.

Correction, they get nominated, but only win about 20% of the time. That's usually a good sign. Kaki King gets called the first Goddess of rock, yet most people have never heard of her. So it's been my experience that the industry will through you the occasional nod if you're talented, but doesn't go beyond that.

I find it most amusing--ah, never mind.

I believe I gave the wrong impression. I don't just listen to "happy songs." I don't dislike "sad" songs. I dislike songs that are about hurting people.

One of my favorite bands is Breaking Benjamin, who has tons and tons of sad songs. Those are some songs I listen to. Another similar one is Red, with a bit of a brighter outlook in life.

Again, I think I said it incorrectly: I dislike songs that are about hurtning other people, about causing them pain. That kind of stuff.
