So I'm just about to start my third playthrough of Mass Effect 3. (I'm playing four before I really dive into Multiplayer mode.) And I was just wondering just how important Javik is to the squad. I really don't have the money to spare to get him right now, but I would be willing to postpone this playthrough about a month or so until I do.

Is he a good companion story-wise? I'm a pretty heavy roleplayer in games, especially the Mass Effect trilogy, and if he really adds some good dialogue or insight to my squad I'll wait until I can get him. Also, do other squad members have genuine discussions with him, or is he more one-sided like Zaeed was in ME2?

I say, keep playing and get him when you're able to do so comfortably. I think it's worth it for people who like backstories and squad interaction. Important? Not really since From Ashes is option altogether. Interesting? I think so.

If you're interested in the role-playing side, then Javik is definitely good to get. He has more to say about everything than Ashley (can't say regarding Kaidan, he's always kicked the bucket in my playthroughs) ever does, and his interactions between the characters and lore is either interesting or hilarious or both (3 words: Javik on Thessia)! It's worth taking him on at least 1 playthrough for the story, but squadmember wise I couldn't say he was more awesome than one squaddie over another.

Downside, there seems to be a bug with the DLC at the moment where during the ending he *always* comes out as at least one of the squaddies after your LI. It doesn't affect everyone, just some people and it appears to be across all platforms.

Javik's integration into the story blows Zaeed and Kasumi away. Totally worth skipping lunch at mcdonalds a couple times.

Yea, it's not really that he is massively important in any way, it's more about the back story he adds to everything.

It's like going through three semesters of History, all focusing on cave men. During your third semester in this class, a cave man joins in with you.... he's now adding commentary to everything the teacher says, revealing to you things you're current civilization may be misinformed about, or may not know at all.

In my first playthrough I got him the second he was available and took him on every single mission (swapping for EDI during the few Geth missions). He really does add some interesting backstory.... Thessia being a vary good example. Oh, and his visit to the Citadel is cool. It was interesting to see what I would've missed when I went through my next playthrough purposely using different characters for their input.

Bottom line, if you can wait, I'd wait. It's worth the few extra dollars and MP (from the looks of it) will lose a lot of players for the first few months after Diablo 3 launches on the 15th. While the lobbies still fill up quickly get some MP in and save some cash. Once D3 drops, buy your DLC and go back to single.

Alright! Thanks everyone for the quick replies! I think I'll wait a bit before getting Javik, though I'm looking forward to it! [=

Hi
definately worth buying. He has a great backstory, is amazing in combat (if paired with another  biotic) and is one of very few characters that evolves. He is tough nut to crack, but as You converse with him You can understand what makes him tick. His comments on other species/mating and their history are priceless , but won't spoil You the fun. My advice-take him to GEth Dreadnought (if You are a Taliromacer) Thessia and Lessus-great conversations with Liara. PLUS: go to him after speaking with drunk Tali.

I was a bit skeptical about Javik but, with Miranda absent, he makes for one of the more interesting 'controversial' characters. Everyone else is a little too nice, whereas Javik makes for some cool comments and interactions. Certainly adds a different flavour to proceedings.
