Now by this point, both games have been out a while, enough for the games to sink in a bit and our likes and dislikes of the game to be pretty much settled in us,  and the intial "shock" to be gone, what game is worse?

I personally think ME3 is the bigger problem game. I actually still quite like DA2, I like the characters, Kirkwall, the new combat. It's not nearly as grand feeling as Origins, but it's still much more grand then Awakening was. Heck, I like DA2 more then Awakening by quite a large margin, even if it doesn't match Origins. Really, only the reused environments and the rather lackluster ending really bother me, and ME3's ending is even more lackluster then DA2's was (who knows, the EC ending might change that though). Besides, DA2 was just following 1 characters rise to fame and how they got swept up in really big problems, nothing too big at stake. Well, the mage civil war was a huge deal, but that only really got introduced in DA2, and the conclusion to that is awaiting the next game. But because it's more a personal story, it being a little lackluster didn't bug me much, it was never supposed to be a big epic adventure like its predecessor was. It was just a nice little lead-in to bigger events later. The hype was just "eh, it will be pretty good", so if it was disappointing it wouldn't sting too much. Bigger they are, harder they fall, and DA2 was never that big to begin with so it didn't have far to fall. It's hype, for me at least, wasn't high enough to destroy it.

ME3 though, was touted the be the "grand epic final of an amazing trilogy". I mean, it was IT. It was the final, supposed to be what everything was leading up to, the biggest and most in depth of the series. It was built up to be the Bioware game to end all Bioware games. It was to be the biggest, bestest, baddest, epicest, lethalist, saddest, happiest, maddest, everythingest game ever. Bioware hyped it to be such, the fans did, gaming "journalism" did, everyone was hyping it to be that. It was massive in hype. Well, again... bigger they are, harder they fall. If it didn't live up, it was going to hit the ground like a meteor the size of Alaska, and the fallout would be just as bad (metaphorically). Unlike DA2, its fall in the event of disappointment was going to be Earth shattering. And... It was exactly the opposite of its hype. It fell. The game was smaller then the previous games, less to do, less dialog, less importance of events, endings that were just "option R, B, G", less choice. It was almost the total opposite of what the hype claimed. It isn't a bad game by any means, but for what it was built up to, it being not as good as it was supposed to be made it sting like the game completely sucked. It was built up the be the alpha and omega, but it just ended up... Good. Frankly, it ending up like DA2 and being only good when it's all that was expected from it would have felt much less painful.

Bottom line, what game is better? I honestly don't know, both are pretty good. But what game fell short of what it was meant to be, was worse compared to its potentiel? ME3, no question. DA2 lived up to what I expected out of it far better then ME3 did.

So, what's everyone else's opinion on this?

DA2, Mass Effect 3 only sucked for 5 minutes not 20 hours.

ME3. To fall so low after coming so far...it's bloody pathetic.

ME3. I mean, the whole time I was playing DA2 I was thinking "DA:O was better", but I was never as invested in the DA series as I was ME. Especially after Awakening.

I liked both a lot, the ending to ME3 was the only thing that was really disappointing.

Seems like there's a lot of hate for DA2. My biggest issue with DA2 was the amount of bugs. In terms of endings ME3's was definitely worse.

ME3, easily.

DA2 is a lower-quality product overall, but my expectations for ME3 were much, much higher.

OP: I was just going to begin a post asking about DA. I've had it on my list, but haven't played it yet. Since I just completed the ME series, do you think that would affect my enjoyment of DA (i.e. would I fall into the trap of comparing it)? I know they are totally different games, but I'm asking from more of a storyline/gameplay perspective.

It would be just lovely if starting up DA would wipe away my disappointment! :?:innocent:

never played DA2, played DA:O and it immediately turned me off that franchise, just a rip-off of NWN2 acts II and III

ME3.

DA2 had an ending that was frustrating, but not anywhere near as bad as ME3, and DA2 was far enough removed that it didn't ruin DA:O for me. Since it's basically unrelated, I can still enjoy DA:O for the complete story it tells, and just ignore that DA2 even happened.

I didn't have a problem with it. Just don't play Awakening. Not worth your money. DA:O is an excellent game however.

Disappointment is ME3 by far being the last game of the trilogy and more so having one character with decisions that ultimately didn't matter.

Worst game, is by far DA2. ME3 had it's moments, whereas DA2 is in my all time worst 10, didn't enjoy a minute of it.

Mass Effect 3. DA2 wasn't my favourite but it had a lot of enjoyable parts, and they consistently led us to the ending- I'm sure a lot of us saw that war coming.

This one? Derped.

ME3 because I was far more wrapped up in the universe, and it's a part 3, not a part 2. ME overall story wise held up well, until it all crumbled in the end. So close. SO close. The WORST area to drop the ball.

DA 2 was a mild disappointment, mostly based on the constant reuse of the same cave and outdoor map. I found the end of the story to be a little rushed, and the epilogue to be just a little too short. But overall it was a fairly solid story with an ending that fit.

ME 3? It was like going on a roller-coaster ride, a very good one, but instead of slowing and landing gently at the exit station, the roller-coaster dissapears on the last downhill stretch and leaves you falling eternally into empty space.

I hated the endings of ME3 but I can still rate the game a 8.5/10

I didn't hate DA:2 but it most definitely was rushed game. Reused areas, fedex quests and bad 3rd act. That said the characters were good but I only give that game a 7

You ask me, the Dragon Age series in general is excellent. I probably rate the ME series higher, but it's a great series regardless. I would say pick them up. Get the ultimate edition of Dragon Age Origins by the way, as it has all the DLC ever released on it, and only for only about 20 bucks or so. 20 bucks for 80 hours of playtime is a great deal. Even DA2 is pretty good, so get it too if you jump into the series.

ME3 is probably going to rank as my greatest disappointment of all time for a long, long time to come. Even months on my friends like to set me off by mentioning something to do with it, and every time the same level of anger at EA and Bioware is still there. Somehow they managed to turn gold into cow crap, and the worst thing we all know what it could have been. But yeah, Bioware and EA are dead to me now.

ME3, I just cannot bring myself to do a third playthrough it just feels like a chore. At least I got through DA2 about six times before becoming boring.

I"d say - ME3. But for different reason - i did not connect to anything in DA2. It was meh all over for me. I did not think to go vent about it on forums. Average game from Bioware. Happens. i do not care for that game one bit, never bought any DLC nor plan to buy.
But majority of ME3 was good, in parts - great. And then suddenly toward the end it started to get less and less atractive and engaging, and then - the ending trauma.
