Are any of you into these? I don't own any guns, though I might be interested in owning a few in the future. I do own a fair number of knives, over a dozen high-quality blades. My most recent acqusition has been a Benchmade 275, designed by Shane Sibert. It's a very beefy, durable knife that I would be quite comfortable bringing on an outdoors trip. The only downside is that D2 steel's lower corrosion resistance might restrict some of its uses. It's a little too large to carry or use on an everyday basis, though. For that I would prefer a much lighter knife with a thinner blade.

Are any of you interested in this equipment, or happen to own a few pieces?

The United States, thank you very much.

Perhaps I should have said "I LIVE IN AMURRKKA."

I'm not too interested in the whole survival aspect that a lot of gun/knife enthusiasts are a part of, but I do appreciate the intrinsic value and aesthetics of finely crafted knives in addition to their practical uses.

I apologize, see the only way I could really justify building a small arsenal was if I lived in a war-torn country and was planning a coup of the local war lords. But buying weapons so you can feel cool is nice I suppose.

Ahh, yes many knives, swords, and well other weapons are more works of art than functional. Some of them are rather nice to look at actully. I just do a bit of fishing used to hunt, just go out into the country side. So a prefer all my weapons functional. Though I tend to think of them more as tools.

Pay no mind to Andriod, otherwise he'll never go away from this topic.

Nah, don't own much of that kind of thing. Aside from a Kukri that I bought because they look awesome, I have a few pocket knives, of the sort you might consider whittling with if you got really bored. Don't own any firearms at all, and would only really consider it if I lived either out in the sticks where it doesn't matter, or nearer a proper range.

Don't consider either necessary to my lifestyle, as I haven't been camping in a long time, and I live in a suburb.

I just poked my head into this topic just to see what people were posting, and your comment made me laugh. No kidding, though, the only reason to really build a small arsenal of weapons.

I don't really see where he has an Arsenal. I mean Kinves, whoopie doo. Only time in modern History I'ld be concerned with them is when a crap load of knife wielding Bosnians attacked an Austrian Trench in WW1....surprisingly they took the trench. Lost it the next day but w.e.

But then again I don't own that many knives myself and actully have pratical day to day uses for them. Its just funny how many people today go "lol why you need a knife or Gun?!" Then when they need a thick package opened or someones trying to murder them or a snakes in there yard, and they want help, I can go "Lol Gtfo"

I mean the cops will protect you, its not like some dude was just beaten to death with a baseball bat down the road from me, or a kid was mauled to death by 5 wild dogs. Minus oh it did. And I mean its not like I live in a Modern US state. I mean clearly I live in Africa.

I got a few guns and knifes. I have a .243 Winchester for hunting, although my grandad let's me borrow his .300 Weatherby because it's insanely powerful (makes a .308 look like a BB gun lol).

My 12 gauge (a model 870 Remington) is nice, but it's been acting weird. Spent shells get stuck in the barrel and I have to pull on the slide with all my strength to get the thing out. Large amounts of cleaning seems to help solve the issue though. I hear it's the result of poor quality control when making the inside of the barrel, shich causes shells to sometimes get stuck.

I also got a Savage Arms .17 HMR with a bull barrel. Nice little gun, and affordable too.

I was thinking about getting a .357 magnum revolver to use as a hunting sidearm, but I can't decide what make. I want a Smith and Wesson model 686, but the price tag is a bit high.

Agreed. Unless you actively plan on killing something, owning a mass amount of weapons just maeks you come off as a lunatic. However, if I did live in Somalia, then these kinds of things would be more acceptable.

I have several Benchmades; a SOG Flash II is my primary carry blade and I prefer the Tanto style.

The knife and light are carried weakside, and a j-frame revolver strongside.

The knife and light are used daily and the handgun on two occasions has prevented bad things from occurring.

And no, I don't live in Somalia.

Owning a dozen high-end knives is hardly an arsenal. Knives, without combat training, are far less effective defensive weapons than the popular imagination makes them out to be. But I suppose it's a matter of perspective.

With reference to the above image, the California law banning .50 caliber rifles is so stupid. It was a case of the legislature making a knee-jerk law without doing research. .50 caliber rifles are so expensive and heavy that their use in a terrorist attack would, quite frankly, be impractical. In fact, there is no record of crimes that have been committed in the US with .50 caliber weapons. I happen to live in CA but I go to university in Nashville. World of difference between those two places.

Unless you're collecting them to put deactivated guns on display as a piece of history or something, that's one thing. But if you're collecting active weapons with the intent of "protecting" yourself from some enigmatic danger, more than one makes you a creepy person. As for knives, they can't be deactivated, so you just look like a Deadpool reject.

This is the area where our perspectives depart. I don't really see knives as weapons, so much as I see them as tools that have the potential to be used as weapons. I suppose it's a matter of familiarity. Being around knives and stuff a lot makes me much more comfortable around them. I don't see them as some sort of unknown, inherently dangerous thing. I see them as a cutting edge that has a variety of applications, and while many of the knives I own certainly could kill people, that sort of thinking doesn't really factor into my decision to purchase them. It's a matter of intent. I'm don't collect knives because I am afraid someone is going to come up to me and hurt me. I collect knives because I think they are cool in and of themselves, and I have uses for them.

Hmm.. well, if I am carrying a knife for anything other than food, 99 times out of 100 it'll be this variety:

Though I do like ka-bar knives.
