by chapa3. Rated M.
Set 5 years after the events of ME3, alternate ending. Spectres Anatoly Ilyushin and Ashley Williams hunt for notorious terrorist Balak. Cutting through lies and scandals, the two uncover a truth that could easily spark a galactic war. Cyberpunk themed.
This story follows the destroy ending, and focuses on the aftermath of the galaxy, in which technology has advanced to the level of cyberized brains and prosthetics that enhance people, rather then simply assist them. Yes, this is influenced by Ghost in the Shell and Deus Ex.

[ * ] The Final Problem by Mighty Crouton: FShep!Renegade, Garrus (T, mystery/suspense, complete). How do you solve an impossible problem? A story of indoctrination, chaos, and freedom.
Wonderful mystery. Really amazing. The first chapter just pulls you in from the get go. The story itself touches upon themes that a LOT of fanfic (and even Bioware's writing team) do not explore. Indoctrination, alien culture & anatomy, as well as a very unique take on the ending that surprised and impressed me. Garrus lovers will eat up this story, provided they aren't looking for romance - squint really hard and you might see some romance there, but you really have to convince yourself. Crouton's grasp on indoctrination, characterizations, and story is thrilling. Crouton's Shepard is also one of the most interesting characters I've read. Not some messiah who walks on waters or a paragon who can do no wrong, but someone who reminds me of Lizbeth Salander, Doctor Who and Sherlock. Rather, all of their worst qualities. But you can't help but root for her. It is beautiful and reminded me of the best Sci Fi stories (Bladerunner, Ghost in the Shell, and even I Robot).
This story really deserves more attention. All the reviewers seem to agree - We've all been convinced to make a Female Renegade character after reading The Final Problem.
[ * ] An Elegant Solution by James Golen: MShep Engineer (T, complete). Shepard isn't a soldier; he's an engineer. ME3 Ending-spoilers
Another great story, another lovely interpretation of how ME3 could have ended. Golen's Shepard is funny, thoughtful, and doesn't solve problems by shooting them. He's too practical. His round about, friendly conversations with the Catalyst really grounds this story. Very simple but very poignant.
[ * ] Storm on the Horizon by Failcraft Heroes Society: FShep, 10th Dr. Who (T, Adventure/Sci-Fi, ongoing). The Doctor thought he could do no more harm to the universe. It takes a fresh perspective to show him he is dead wrong. Post New!Series 3, Mass Effect post-2 pre-DLC.
I wasn't sure what to expect about this crossover, but it is surprisingly pitch perfect. It takes a very talented writer to be able to integrate the Who universe with ME. The pieces fit so nicely together, you wonder why no one has ever thought of it before. Characterizations are extremely strong, and it doesn't take itself too seriously which is nice. If you want a story that will make you smile the entire time, go for this one. There's a reason why 110 people have +fav'd this story.
There you go.

Flotsam
Author: thedeadflag (wish I could have used the tag fluffywalrus, but alas, it was taken)
It's my Femshep's Pre-Mass Effect origin fic loosely based around the Earthborn Shepard template. I take some liberties, I expand on some things. I kind of moved away from the "lived on the streets her whole life and ran in a gang" bit, because I thought there was some potential for a different upbringing on Earth.
The summary on ffnet is "A pre-ME1 backstory of A.Shepard's ascent of sorts, from a young
emaciated orphan to Spectre candidate. Rated M because it'll get pretty
violent in the future". I haven't really updated it...nor am I good at summaries...
I focus on Shepard and a few OCs, with the odd cameo by Anderson or Finch. It's pretty long...a bit over 100k words, and it's nearing its end. 18 chapters out, currently, so they're long-ish chapters.
Rated M because there's some violence, and potentially other M-worthy incidents in the future.
Genres listed are: Drama/Hurt/Comfort, but it's not the saddest story or anything. There are plenty of happy moments. The comfort isn't necessarily third string there, just how it shows up.
Anywho, if anyone decides to pop by and read it, thanks in advance
Have a great weekend!

almostaclevername.blogspot.com/2012/09/second-teaser-excerpt-from-mass-effect.html
By Neo Hex Omega. FemShep/Garrus. Mature rated. The story begins at the end, with the Crucible about to fire. But dying for the second time is just the beginning of Shepard's next adventure... the events of Mass Effect 3 are found to be an elaborate lie spun by the Reapers, and now it is time for Commander Shepard to find out the truth behind their invasion.
This is an extensive story that re-writes an entire game's worth of material. If you thought Mass Effect 3 was not an appropriate end to the trilogy and wish it actually delivered on the potential that it had, this is the story for you.
Right now only the prologue is posted, but more will follow. Any feedback is appreciated.
