I recently purchased Dragon Age Origins Ultimate Edition and was thoroughly blown away
by how fun it was, and after finishing it in 3 weeks, I decided to pick up Dragon Age 2
1 week ago. I started up the game, and it went through the motions of downloading the latest
patch and rebooting, but upon rebooting, it got the "This disk is unreadable" error. I repeatedly
tried to start the game but got the same error. I tried out a bunch of other games, which
included a selection of games played off the disk, installed to the harddrive, and even
Bioware/EA games which worked fine. Thinking it was a bad disk, I went and exhanged it for
another copy.
However, this second copy also experienced the "This disk is unreadable" error. Out of
curiosity, I loaded up Mass Effect 3, played around a bit, and then tried the Dragon Age 2
disk. Miraculously enough, it went to the selection screen (new game, load game, etc), so
I quickly quit the game, installed it to the harddrive, downloaded the Black Emporium DLC,
and eagerly awaited to play the game. No luck. This time the error had been replaced with
a "Game couldn't start, please download again" error. Testing other games yielded the result
that they worked fine, including 2 very cheap new games I bought to test out on my 360 to make
sure it wasn't my system at fault.
Strangely enough, with both disks, the Xbox dashboard can detect it, which shows the little
icon with "Play Dragon Age 2", with the logo behind it. Which seems to indicate that the
disks themselves can be read. Thus I have to come to the conclusion that it is a problem
with the game itself. Has anyone come across this problem? Is it something Bioware has any
intention of fixing?? This article seems to indicate that my case isn't an isolated incident:

For your interest, I am playing on an XBOX 360 Slim bought in December 2010 with the latest
dashboard. My Dragon Age 2 copy is a brand new standard edition. As a result of this problem,
I am very disappointed and frustrated. I have been a long time fan dating back to the days of
Baldur's Gate and MDK, and hope that some light can be shed on this problem, and that it won't
simply be swept under the rug. Without a working Dragon Age 2, I guess I won't be playing
Dragon Age 3 then either.
