That's a very nice idea Kamal_ I'm going to play with that one later. I use the scaled merchant crate for box section horizontals but it has to be small on height and width.

Shed small 2 is good for larger pieces.

If you take one of the stuffed heads and scale down the y-axis setting to 0.1-0.2, it looks like a painted illustration. For best effect, sink it into the wall until the plaque is hidden. Good for goblinoid rock wall images. I used { 1.5, 0.2, 1.5 } for the scale.

Similar idea, Storyteller made custom wall plaques by rescaling placeables. They look really good. I'm using them.

Nice!

Hey, I just noticed there's a religious themed hakpak for NWN. They look pretty neat. It would be slick if some of those could be ported over to NWN2.

Yeah that ancient alter is really cool, I could have used that.

I have also found that you can stick them onto banners and wall hangings for a custom effect.

Pillar 2 doesn't really have a texture on top. You can top with Pillar 4 scaled to .5,.5,.5 and height 2.4. This way only the top part of pillar 4 is visible. Remeber to set pillar 4 to environmental.

Bedroll with scale 1, 13, 13, makes a "sound damping" wall cover batting/heavy drapes/insane asylum style padded walls. You can use scale 1, 4, 13 next to doors, and 1, 5, 4 above the door.

Lamp {04} can be used as an interior wall mounted lamp by placing it so only the lamp part sticks out of the wall, and lowering it to the desired level (the lamp part is at ceiling height).

Rubble {Sunken Ruins 01 (X1)} under Manmade Props is a darker version of the Dirty Cave Floor placeable under the Nature Props. It is a good complement to some of the darker rock placeables like Cave Stalagmite and most of the Rock Columns. It also works decently with Swordscar, or in combination with the dirt shadow effects for a fireball scar.

Most of the pillars that do have texture on top may be scale to 0.1 height or sunk into the floor to give a slab floor effect. Or used as slabs for a fire hearth.

If you put in a usable placeable, and then put an unusable copy of the placeable with height 0.01 on top of it, the ability to z key highlight the usable placeable is not so noticeable.

Platform {Lrg Bowl 03 (X2) TINT} at scale 1, 1, 0.05 and sunk -0.08 into the floor and you get a round area on the floor.

The same technique is useful for decorating those blank plaques that are attached to many of the buildings. They can really add a lot of character to a town or city.

Another trick I'm using in my upcoming mod:
Take a round rug, tint it completely black, place some stones on its edge such that only a quarter of the rug is seen, and you have a hole in the floor. Do you dare to climb down and explore what is below the crypt?

Use different color torch vfx in the same spot to get a hybrid/blended torch.

diophant reminded me of another trick with black rugs; use them as a base for arcane circle placeables, it makes the colors stand out more

You can use some of the placeables to add features to the tops of buildings. A crane above a storage building, for example, or the tower-looking guard shack for a building tower. (Those work best for more distant buildings where you can see the full elevation.) Some of the buildings work as upper levels, creating a taller building. I've also used a couple of the planters for window shelves on the upper floors--sliding them half way into the building then added a Holly bush for decoration. A set of well-placed stone walls, combined with one or two of the stone balconies, can be placed around the base of an elevated building with the stairs leading up to the doorway. Usually this works best for city buildings that don't have an outer walkway.

On an overland map, you can make a pretty decent-looking stone bridge as follows:
  • Place a pair of Battlement{01...} placeables in parallel and at the same height, scaled down to 40% of normal.
  • In the gap between, insert a pair of Floor{01} placeables, scaled down by 50%. One should be slightly higher than the other to avoid shimmering where they overlap.
  • Tint the floor placeables to match the Battlement; I used 167, 167, 167 gray.
  • Make the floor placeables environmental objects, then cover them with a Walkmesh Helper Flat {Stone} scaled as 1.5, 4.2, 1.0. Set the height to slightly above the highest floor placeables.
Once everything is lined up properly and placed with the ends near ground level, when you bake you should have a functioning military-style bridge. It could probably be extended multiple times and pillar supports added underneath as needed. But I only needed one section for an overland map river.

How about placeable placing tricks? I recently wanted to create a circle of evenly spaced standing stones, and found that the wooden rural fence placeables make good temporary compasses.

The origin of the rural fence models is at the post at one end, so by placing the post end at the centre of the circle, and scaling the whole thing to the required radius, you can incrementally change the rotation angle of the fence placeable and it will turn about the post end like the hand of a clock.

I wanted nine stones in a circle, so I rotated the rural fence placeable by 40 degree increments (360 / 9), using the non-post tip of the fence as a guide for placing each stone. Once they were all in place I deleted the fence, and had a near-perfect evenly-spaced circle of stones. It looked much better than my initial manual attempt.
