Also, in the EA financial meeting article I linked, EA confirmed they're working on next-gen console projects. That means they're right around the corner and you'll likely see them in 2013. That also could be why a DA3 "delay" is only logical and giving SWTOR more help.

Bioware will have to build a new engine for the next consoles and those take awhile to do. Likely a year, minimum.

Way I understand it, dev kits usually go out a year before the console is released. Maybe they just started making the rounds.

Bioware doesn't have to build a new engine, they just have to update it for compatability.

That's true but I'm thinking Bioware will build their own engine to use in ALL their games next-gen. They're big enough now with 5-6 studios and the Mass Effect team will need a engine. They use Unreal and that would force them to wait on Epic to update the code. I've read a Bioware dev also talking about how Unreal was hard to program on when they first got it. That's why ME1 had some technical problems. Wouldn't doubt they'd just build something of their own.

Doesn't DA2 use a modified Aurora Engine called Lycium? And doesn't it use some third-party middleware too?

The rumors Bioware could be using Frostbite for the next DA could be true too. I hope that's true because Frosbite is the best engine in the industry, IMO.

I would be willing to wait if it meant that DAIII knocks our socks off. That said then i would like to see maybe another expansion pack/DLC. I know they said they weren't doing any more DLC's for DAII but something would be nice, nicer even if they allowed us to mod it like DAO.
