Samantha should be the new Shadow Broker. Not Liara.

Look, I know Liara is a ME1 fan-favorite and all... but if we're being honest, I still have zero idea why she's in ME3 other than to try and get into my Shepard's pants for the third or fourth time (no means no, Liara).

As the most powerful information broker in the galaxy, you'd think she'd actually be of use on that front. She's really not. She intercepts a few pointless emails here and there, but that seems to be the gist of her usefulness on the ship.

But Samantha Traynor? Where Liara fails to discover things, Samantha is all over it. She doesn't even have the Shadow Broker's network or surveillance equipment, and yet there she is intercepting distress calls, decrypting enemy messages, tracking down terrorists, and giving you missions over and over that help you out and help save lives.

In other words, Samantha needs Liara's job because she's already doing it better than Liara is and isn't even using a tenth of Liara's resources. She's already so good at it, we can probably forgive her for being a never-nude (and I hear there are dozens of never-nudes in the galaxy. DOZENS).

Anyone agree? Disagree?

Uhh......Liara.

Traynor is far more exciting.

Maybe even a better character.

Yes. I think so.

Pretty much.

I like Liara, but jesus did Lair of the Shadow Broker turn out to be completely pointless other than keeping Feron alive, who you don't ever talk to again if you do.

BioWare dropped the ball on so many things in this game my house is devoid of upright tables.

Shepard: "So who told you about the females Wrex?"
Wrex: "Not Liara."

Yeah despite having such a wide info network Liara didn't seem to know alot. The beacon on Thessia comes to mind.

Liara "No"
Shepard " AH well how about you traynor, who is my assistant and really should have absolutly no idea where the base could possibly be
Traynor " It's right here"
:o

Traynor only knew where the Cerberus base was because she tracked Kai Leng's shuttle escaping Thessia.

Liara was busy escaping Thessia with Shepard, so I'm not going to hold that against the Shadow Broker.

Liara is pointless. Traynor was a great character, wish she was from the get-go in the franchise to be honest :(

Would Traynor make a better Shadow Broker?

Probably.

That doesn't mean Liara is bad at it. And Liara was the only one in the position to take the role when it was... vacated

Wow. I was so disappointed by the ending that I totally forgot how useless Liara was as Shadow Broker. Your post reminded me. Haha. :P

Having him as a squaddie would've made the crime of not having a Krogan squadmate almost forgivable. Only because he uses a Revenant one-handed.

Minus points for Shepard beating the crap out of him with his fists though.

If Liara spent more time looking for real intel rather then getting dirt on all her friends she might get something done.

This is actually more a problem with BioWare trying to make sure that Traynor has some depth. In an effort to give her character something to do, they completely made Liara pointless. All the things Traynor does would make a lot more sense anyway if they were done by Liara. It really does feel that the war was won by some random scientist who just happened to get stuck aboard the Normandy when it left Earth.

Since Traynor isn't trying to get into my male Shep's pants I'd pick her over Liara. I like Liara well enough, just as friends.

Liara is awesome =)

she's just busy doing the catalyst-stuff which she won't bore Shepard with. Just like Garrus doesn't tell us all about the finer points of calibrations.

Would love more time with Traynor, she is a wonderful LI. But, that doesn't mean that I want less Liara, she's a fav LI as well.

And I thought I was the only Samantha Traynor fan, she is definitely a more interesting character than Liara, not that I'm knocking Liara, she has her place in the grand scheme of things, but Traynor and EDI together definitely over shadow her as shadow broker, ouch! I had to get that one in.

A pykack would make a better Shadow Broker than Liara. Be more fun to play with as well.

Traynor would be interesting as the SB sure. I'd really want to see Miranda as the SB though.

Even Wrex pokes fun at Liara regarding info she was oblivious to regarding Maelon's work and STG intervention.

Come to think of it, the OP has added to my conspiracy theory regarding Hackett and Liara, especially as the most powerful information broker in the galaxy seems to have very little to offer in the way of information.

People don't generally respond well to certain all powerfull and all knowing characters in a series. Especially when the series isn't totally about said character and there are others as well.

Liara is my personal favorite character and LI but I'm glad they didn't up her mary sue factor by having her have all the answers to all the problems Shepard faced. It's good there were a few things she couldn't help with.

And yeah sure let Samantha become the new Shadow Broker. Shepard will be taking Liara on a very very long vacation after ME3 anyway, she won't have time for shadow brokery... things

Sam has to be my favorite character introduced in ME3. I wish they had done a lot more with her. She would be a great SB but it might make her into a bad person.

Yep. Both would be fine as the SB. Liara had to be character-assassinated to fit the job. So much for artistic integrity, Mr.Walters, if a character is *your* favorite.
