I've considered this before, and returning to the idea of running a second server all set in the underdark. Allowing drow, deep dwarves, kobolds, etc. Is there any reception or need in the community for this? So far I was only able to find arelith, for places that offer a good underdark roleplay.

"The North" PW has separate UD areas that players can start in, explore and avoid sunlight for most of their existance. Arelith as you mentioned does as well. "EFU" used to, but I believe the present chapter of their campaign has moved to the surface. There's Amia (which is a split from Arelith) that has a dedicated UD area last I recall too.

Is there a "need" or a "void" to be filled by another choice of where to play in "the dark"? I'm unsure. I've had players on almost every PW I've been on (including my own) that asked for it. Its never been a majority though. While some might play duergar, kobolds, minotaurs, etc... , the two biggest draws to play in a UD setting always seem to be drow, followed by mindflayers (if allowed).

Despite what players may or may not desire, do you desire it? If you have hesitations, then you might find the task daunting and or unrewarding to take on. Don't let others persaude you to build/add something you yourself aren't 100% behind first. :) Then use the old Field of Dreams addage if you do. "Build it and they'll come". :)

Thanks Kalbaern. I'd enjoy it and play myself if there was enough interest, and people to play with - the reason for the thread pretty much.

We too support an 'underdark' like environment - with extensive areas below ground, drow and all the trappings included. 1337+ areas means there are a lot of places to explore here.

Best wishes on your mod.

Jenna, the question I would ask myself in this case is whether adding another server to my world would dilute my player base further.

I think that success of a server depends on a critical mass of players and DMs. In my opinion an "active" server never drops below a minimum of 3 players logged in at any given moment. If you can not presently maintain that, I think adding another server would be unwise.

Erm, spam aside...

No it won't dilute the playerbase, which is honestly rather lacking already. I just got inspired after reading some books. :P

I just love it when you falsely accuse me of spamming.

My post was not spam but directly answered your question. The only difference between my instance and your proposed one is - my single server can and does handle the load that most servers have to split up among two or more servers. There is more than just the server or two you found with an 'underdark' my own for instance. We offer FULL support for drow PCs, from levitation and darkness, through bonuses in game for quality "sucking up to Lolth" moves (spiders are friendly to devout servants of the demon goddess for example). Many more cool scripted features too, for drow and other races.

I too agree that a server needs to have 'critical mass' in terms of users logged in or else you risk the dilution the other poster mentioned.

Spam my butt.

I calls em like I sees em. And my view spreads past this single thread.
It's been addressed before.

Your vision is faulty. This is a public forum and you inquired about a particular aspect of the game asking "Is there any reception or need in the community for this?" You also indicated an incomplete knowledge of the servers online that offer an 'underdark'. My responses were direct, yes, there is a need (on some servers, esp those with population sufficient). More, yes there is a reception for it, some like it and asked for it on our server.

If you would prefer to exclude my opinion from your posts in the future, maybe you can post such a notice as a header in your messages and I'll refrain from sharing what I know with the readers in the threads you post in such a fashion.

I too am a bit tired of the shamelss server promoting, especially in other's post, pfft...

It's not only off topic, it's just flat rude...

Anyway Jenna, let your heart guide you mate, if you are inspired to do this, do it!

I'm sure your players, or even yourself, will enjoy playing in this module you create, who knows, maybe you can just import it into an existing module you have?

That's just my view though...   :wizard:

The number of areas is not off topic, it illustrates a valid point. Not intended in any way other than to illuminate that you need NOT split a server or build a separate one if your server is built to run well. Shameless promotion? Guile, I'm going to refrain from posting links to your own efforts in that direction JUST because I'm busy with important NWC code atm.

You are entitled to your opinion, everyone has one of those too.

Be well. Game on.

I say if you want to make it, you may just get some players interested. There seems to be an interest in all things drow, so that may also translate to all things underdark.
