The article didn't mention if it was 200 million dollar in profit. You have to consider development costs (voice acting included) and shipment.
Regardless, the game won't have long legs. Pre orders and initial sales is the only profit they made out of Mass Effect 3.
By the way, folks that are happy about the 200 million dollar. That number won't get much bigger any time soon. A game having long legs, will always > a game that sells strong to begin with, before everyone figures out that they've been had, by the useless critics, who are in the pocket of the publishers.
Every week for ME3 is still higher than for ME2
(XBOX360)
ME3 sales for week 8 - 54,072
ME2 sales for week 8 - 16,825
And? That's absolutely laughable. Like I said, they made their profit the first two weeks. The rest is miniscule. ME3 legs are incredible short. Let's take a competitor like Skyrim.
ME3 for 360
1st week
1,371,048
4th week
100,758
6th week
63,427
Now let's look at Skyrim, also on 360.
1st week.
1,859,285
4th week
287,214
6th week
540,418
Skyrim actually saw an increase in sales, that's a sign of strong legs and positive consumer feedback (word to mouth).
ME3 probably won't ever break 4,5 million in total. Certainly not in this year.
Skyrim however has broken 11,7 million so far.
Who says you need CoD like games to sell?
Oh and just for fun, the ultimate game with strong legs. New Super Mario Bros. Wii.
1st week
1,344,201
4th week
1,445,384
6th week
1,810,368
10th week
347,898
128th week
29,860
Now consider how much it cost to develop New Super Mario Bros. Wii and how much it costs to develop ME3.
