It's not a difficult concept to see why businesses would lean toward that market. Especially given these numbers ME3 didn't excel as much as it could have.

I'm going to cry inside now.

Skyrim sold almost 12 million copies, so there is hope that a company will see a western RPG as worth developing outside of Bethesda. I only hope that they don't try to copy it, which I have little doubt DA3 will be doing like ME copied Gears. I can see it now Bioware saying it is like Skyrim except the main character talks!

You know that's a major problem with the games industry, it always has been but it's gotten more and more prevalent as games have become more expensive to develop.
They're always looking to piggyback on someone else's formula, someone else's success. "Game X is successful! Make our game like that! Also, Game Y is doing even better! Make our game a hybrid of Game X and Game Y so we'll get BOTH of their consumer base buying our game!".

Cynical, pandering designed-by-commitee nonsense that's creates clone games and useless hybrids.

What do you think you're proving by announcing you're wasting money on something so substanceless, other than the fact that you're irresponsible with your finances?

This is something hipster-gamers need to get through their thick skulls. There are much worse things you could waste your money on. If someone wants to fund developers and unlock cool things in a videogame, which they enjoy and will gain more enjoyment from, shut up and mind your business.

people that spend BW points are the same ones  who go to the forums and cry about how they got a mantis or a shot gun and demand they get better guns. They then go to these forums and **** at people who demand a better quiality game.

irony no?

Have retake ME3 influenced that at all? I honestly don't know.

What I do know is that you have to fight for what you believe is right and not let the opposition stop you unless they can mount a credible counter argument. The original poster needs to stick to his guns and see what the future brings, it is my honest opinion that we can influence the future of game design - and make sure Blue/Green/Red never happens again.

Retake is part of it, just look at the continued drop of ME3 sales. They still haven't sold out of the initial shipment of 4 million copies. It also doesn't help that ToR is also under performing and is having trouble keeping subscribers. There is a reason for that, ToR isn't a good game. It is a mediocre single-player game that you pay monthly for.

Agreed. We saw that pre-ME3 release with Bioware talking about Call of Duty. It was quite frankly the dumbest thing they could be talking about. It is totally different fanbases and you can't apeal without compromising your product.

Bioware is apart of EA, and EA is continually chasing franchises like Call of Duty, Halo, Gears of War because they are selling better then their franchises. It is why I have little hope for any new game Bioware releases because it will just be chasing the next trend in gaming.

I'll admit to buying some packs, had some extra MS points and used that. It is a huge waste of money. Getting anything useful is just a huge roll of the dice. It isn't worth grinding credits for, and it certainly isn't worth using real cash for. EA/Bioware is just taking advantage of people with more cash then sense. I enjoy the multiplayer, but I am not dumb enough to put down a pile of cash trying to get some decent weapons.

You can always pick out the idiots in the multiplayer, they have a low N7 level, have all the top weapons/classes and still playing in Bronze.

Kinda makes me feel irrelevant as a fan, I think I'm just going to give up all together. If they have all the money they need, why should they care about fan feedback?

I already bought my copy, they have my money, but if they don't fix the blunder, they won't get more. It isn't the sales on this game that will tell the tale; it's the sales on the next few.

Retaining a customer is far less expensive than gaining a new one -- a lot (I won't guess at percentages) of fans that would buy BioWare games without a second thought are pissed off now, and insulted by BioWare's handling of the ME3 ending false advertising blunder. I can't say how the dlc will affect the situation, but if it doesn't appease fans, the company will be losing a chunk of their fanbase that they cannot hope to retain, and may never get back; that costs them money in the long run, even though these people have purchased and been horrified by the ending to ME3 already.

There is a significant part of the fanbase that is satisfied with the ending, and (with some overlap) another significant part that will be satisfied with the dlc, but if I had to hazard a guess, I would imagine that they will lose a somewhat large number of fans because they lied about their product. Call it what you want, I guess, but that seems to be where things stand.

Sales of future titles are what will tell the tale of the effects of ME3's ending.

Somewhat interestingly, Game of Thrones coming out shortly looks to be useing the DA:O style, real time combat. Don't know if the game will be great or anything, but I find it somewhat noteworthy.

Oddly, this is what I was thinking. EA has just learned that they can pretty much do as they want now with impunity from "fans". It's an elevation of the most egregious nature to gamers everywhere.

$200 million and counting is an accurate way to put it. I keep running into new players in multiplayer. Micro-transactions are going to continue streaming in.

And honestly, with the game now priced where it is I would recommend it to my friends (ending included) so that they can see for themselves what all the hubub is about. And if the EC is good, I'll go back to recommending the entire trilogy to everyone everywhere for all time.
