NOTE II: To everyone that will say you won't buy DLC until the ending is fixed, I am pretty much on your side with that one, so if you are one ofthese people, just read through this as though the last hour or so of the game hadn't happened yet.
Alright, I finished Mass Effect 3 nearly 2 months ago and while looking through different threads about the Extended Cut and Future DLC ideas I thought of something:
Don't do standard DLC, expansion packs would make more sense.
When you play through ME3, the game follows a similar structure for the Krogan and Quarian storylines:
An opening mission : Sur'kesh - Geth Dreadnaught
2 seperate missions following either side: Lost Krogan / Turian team - Rescue Admiral / Geth Consensus
A final mission to decide the fate of the race(s) : Priority Tuchunka - Priority Rannoch
So why can't we add this structure into the DLC?
I've looked through pieces of the leaked script (November Cut) and I noticed a few things in it that would make the game more interesting (NOTE: I'm not saying do redo entire missions, just to add a line of dialogue here and there that would lead into these sub-plots), these would be minor retcons that would help lead into the expansion.
For instance, in the leaked script, instead of Udina moving large sums of money, he's holding a referendum on whether or not to abandon Kahje (the Hanar Homeworld) in order to help other fronts in the war, now, this would
raise a few eyebrows because, well, why should the Human Councillor hold a vote for an alien race? In the leaked script Kasumi and/or Kolyat (Thane's kid) are brought in help you in trying to figure this out, and then the Cerberus Coup happens and you all know the rest......
Anyway, there are several DLC ideas that could be in this expansion, I've thought of 2 expansion packs already, these would include new weapons, another skin for each squadmate, 3 new race sub-plots, and possibly a
squadmate:
Expansion 1: Expansion 2:
Retake Omega The Liberation of Khar'shan
The Battle for Palaven The Battle for Illium
The Fall of Kahje The Parnack Uplift
New Weapons: the ones seen in Resurgence pack New Weapon pack (multiplayer or campaign)
New squadmate: ME2 character (e.g. Jacob, Samara) New Squadmate: The Batarian
New Squad Skins New squad skins (3 Included for the Batarian)
Cost: £19.99 Cost: £19.99
EMS:
Now, the EMS would be interesting, on the one hand, you could gain considerable ground in the war effort, in, say Retake Omega, if you succeed, you just united the Terminus forces under Aria's rule, if you fail, then you just lost the support of the merc bands and Aria, same with Palaven, if you succeed the the Turian and Krogan forces are yours,if you fail, well then you just threw away half a dozen dreadnaughts
for nothing.
Total EMS
value: Potential Gain Potential Loss
Retake Omega 350 120
The Battle For Palaven 600 400
The Fall of Kahje 50 150
The Liberation of Khar 'Shan 175 175
The Battle for Illium 250 150
The Parnack Uplift 125 75
Retake Omega will be about Aria retaking Omega from Cerberus which was heavily hinted at in ME3, and about the aftermath of what to do with the station afterwards:
Priority: Omega I
Omega: The Patriarch / Omega: The Mercenaries
Priority: Omega II
Omega I will be about the initial battle where the various mercenary forces and Aria's attack the Cerberus blockade and, while the ships are battling outside, Shepard, Aria and several others board Omega itself and try to retake Omega Control, this mission would be a good time to have Aria as a temporary squadmate, while you'll hear the likes of Zaeed or Patriarch over the comms about their status (for instance, as Oleg Petrovsky commands the Cerberus fleet, you'll hear how the Blood Pack are getting decimated, but Eclipse's Mechs are coming in handy),As you reach the control room, you're confonted by colonel Ashe and his assistant, who you can decide to take prisoner (paragon) , kill (renegade) or let Aria handle, which is basically renegade but with morereputation. As you regain control of Omega Control, the Cerberus ships begin to break off and fall back through the Mass Relays, and that's the end of Priority Omega I.
Omega: The Patriach is a side- mission involving Patriarch (or a Krogan Warlord if he's dead) asking you to backstab Aria for him to take control, you can either kill him where hestands, follow through with it (just not carrying it out until Omega II) or using Charm or Intimidate to get him to change his mind or to join Aria's war Machine.
Omega: The Mercenaries will be about the merc forces needing something to help rebuild their forces, on the one
hand, the Blood Pack have lost most of their ships so in return they want a section of Omega as their own as compensation. The Eclipse have their old leader, Sederis, breaking out of prison and your tasked with hunting her down (if she's in charge then she simply makes a move to kill you when you try and talk to her) The Blue Suns is about Zaeed (if he survived) wanting to regain control of the Blue Suns, if you refuse, then you've lost him and his friends as a war asset, if you agree, then it's relatively simple (you just charm/ intimidate/ blackmail Darner Vosque into agreeing) however, if Vido Santiago from Zaeed's loyalty mission is alive, then you have to kill him (which costs
you 2/3s of the Blue Sun's war assets) or persuade him into going into hiding (which requires A LOT of reputation).
Priority: Omega II is when Oleg Petrovsky returns with a larger Cerberus fleet to re-retakeOmega, they eventually board and while Eclipse and Blood Pack fight the invaders, and the Blue Suns fighting the fleet outside, you and Aria interrogate Colonel Ashe and/ or his assistant about what they know, youget nothing as both of their ocular Flashbangs go off, killing them both. Meanwhile, Petrovsky's cruiser has broken off from the fight and has began to fire on Omega, from here, you take control of one of the station's defence turrets and shoot down his cruiser.
The battle is over and Omega is now in your control, now you have several options on what to do with the station:
1) Let Aria Control it.
2) Hand it over to the Alliance
3) OPTIONAL: Kill Aria and let Patriarch / Krogan warlord take control.
NOTE: neither choice will land you Paragon or Renegade, except probably the 3rd one.
POST
DLC Changes: Omega will become a small hub (similar to ME2), Aria couldbe found in Omega instead, Eclipse and the other mercenaries now base themselves here instead of E24 on the Citadel.
The Battle for Palaven will be like a sequel to the Tuchunka ark, where you'll see how those forces you gathered in it will affect the war there (you may pick up some more allies along the way), The Fall of Kahje is a story ark centred around the Hanar homeworld being invaded and your choices in how many escape/ die/ are attributed to the war effort, the new squadmate will be an ME2 squadmate, I'll leave that open for discussion for now......
Liberate Khar'shan will be about trying to retake Khar'shan and gather what's left of the Batarian race to help with the victory fleet, this will be less destroying reaper armadas (since only a skeleton crew would remain) and more about helping refugees and the resistance forces, The Battle for Illium will be about several races sending a fleet or two in to help defend Illium (since it's a major relay hub) and will eventually pan out the same way as Kahje, finally, the Parnack uplift will be about whether or not bringing the Yahg into the war is a good idea (the Shadow Broker was one, and there were several in quarantine on Sur'kesh) afterthe Elcor Homeworld of Dekuuna is invaded and the war begins to drag out. The Batarian squadmate, well, I'll talk more about that later too.
NOTE:
I will go into detail about the specifics of Expansion 1 later, for now I'll leave it here for discussion (I also haven't quite worked out a plot yet).
