I think at the end of the day regardless of who has the most XP points in a match and who is lowest or who kills what. It is all a team effort. It doesn't matter if they are level 6 but have N7 rating of 100- or 1000 or if they are playing a maxed out lvl 20 character. It's all about team effort. It is co-op not a multiplayer free for all.
I play a Asari Vangard most the time 'cause I am pretty good with it and score arround 50-60k xp on brtonze runs and arround 80k on silver. points by match end between levels 14-20 does that make me the best? I don't even keep track until I see it at the end of the match. No it doesn't matter aslong as everyone is doing their part I could care less if they have 15-20k xp points in their name, that just means they are in more of a support role not a hardcore dmging role, they can be but depends on their play style. Not everyone is all about the kill kill kill em all. Sometimes I like playing support. Not as stressful.
At the end of the day everyone should be working together. It isn't about individual effort. Most times I get in matches and everyone is fairly equal. On gold however I have seen low level classes out perform lvl 20's It has nothing to do with your N7 rating or what weapon you have or what not. Like PvP in mmo's it's about how you play your class, knowing what to do and what not to do in specific situations that best benefit your assault.
I don't like bailing on a match but if someone is all about doing everything themselves. I will leave. It isn't fun.

I really hate groups that are "Plug in your mic or we kick!" Not everyone CAN talk >_> that's discrimination! :<
I know my job, i can do my job well. I shoot things in the face, i run and go get objectives. It's not rocket science. if i'm not an infiltrator, i'm an adept. i'm very good at making things explode. or priming them TO explode, i'm rather flexible like that. and i'll usually go out of my way to detonate just to see if people catch on. or...i'm an engineer and i'm still shooting things in the face with a rifle. just now i'm throwing energy drain/overload/incinerate in with my bullets along with decoy/combat drone/geth turret.
Communication does not equal a successful gold run, it can hinder just as much if you suck, regardless of how well you communicate. Couple of people i run with use mics, we talk between matches because i can message them and such. during the match..they rarely talk about the enemies we're facing other than making a comment such as "Stop headshotting everything, we wanna kill too -laughs-" "Nice!" "Behind us!" generally, short and sweet, or...comedic. or telling random 4th person to bunker down so i can go do my objectives without going on a field trip
They mostly talk about school, girls, other games, tell jokes...basically...anything BUT what's going on with our enemies. every time i run with them, regardless of what we face. always a successful run, worst case scenario? partial extraction because of our random 4th doesn't wanna join us at the EZ.
I've had just as many random gold runs with no mic's, people caught on and worked together, full extraction and very few deaths. if we had adepts, people figured out whether they were priming, or detonating quick. if not, they still figured out their job well enough. (Granted i've had way more CRAPPY gold runs, where everyone thinks it's bronze =/)
the only thing that matters is knowing HOW to play your class, and paying attention to what your allies are doing so you can work together. microphones aren't going to save a bad party, could they help? sure, but it's not a for sure thing.
I understand what you're saying (and I would never kick for not having a mic) but it doesn make a huge difference. Just a quick "there's a banshee behind you" can mean the difference between winning or losing a match.
On Saturday I was playing a few gold matches, and i was with a really noob (bronze team) on Giant, and there's this krogan idiot that keeps running around trying to melee banshees (but wait, he doesn't die) he then turns around and runs into the room where everyone else is holding everything off (the upstairs bunker thing)--but he doesn't run in the front to show us that there are banshees coming. No, he keeps running in the back behind us, running through the building and out the front or just hiding behind a pile of rubble, and the banshees just walk up behind us because we have no idea they're there, and instakilling us. This happened about five times before he caused the deaths of both himself and both of the other team members, so I was left alone with countless enemies left and I just said "Screw this" and let myself die.
the point is, had he told us "I just brought a banshee in behind you guys" we could have survived that match.
I don't mean to sound full of myself, but I can't really count how many times I've warned somebody of a phantom behind them and they've spun around and saved themselves.
It isn't required, but it does help a lot.

One other comment i can't resist making: you who complains about kills being stolen....you must not get how the points work...you get points for the damage you do. it doesn't matter who gets the killshot. Anyone who is trying to tell me not to shoot at at an enemy is completely clueless as far as I am concerned. This is co-op not competitive.
actually, you can also get kills if there's a pause between somebody firing. Say I unload a full clip (or is it magazine?) on something, get it down to like one more shot before it's dead, have to reload, and in that instant somebody kills it- it gives them the kill (this can often happen with sniper rifles due to the amount of damage they are doing, even though it's already almost dead). It's a stupid method but that's how it works sometimes.
but yeah I get what you're saying, it's not really a competitive game, complaining about kill-stealing is dumb.

Difficult to be a 'wingman' if you can not communicate with your team. Hard to use body language on your character to warn someone that there is a phantom closing in on them.
I think the universal signal for "THERE'S A PHANTOM BEHIND YOU!" is to turn and sprint away as fast as possible.

lol so true! when you find yourself alone in a gold match, its a clear sign that you shouldn't be where you are at. always CHECK YOUR FLANK and stay with/near your team, even if you think you can solo a portion. i've had enemies spawn right before my eyes, so just be prepared.

Maybe do a little dance like a bee letting everyone else know direction and distance of threat lol. Can not count the number of times I have been saved by a warning (vocal)

Lol yeah I do not think people actually run. But if you weAndover we're in your squad and if I do not have mic in its okay I use stasis but I'm a baller like that ah-ha!
Then shoot in head
LOL I do that too. Soon as I see a Phantom I stasis and pew pew head shot kill it in matter of seconds. They ****** me off so I kill em as quick as possible. I would rather go head to head with a banshee.

I agree phantoms are too sneaky for me smart little sobs. I've been caught a couple times backing up behind a wall for cover to reload and there she is using her blade stupid beotch. At least banshees you see and hear them coming.
during cerberus matches 9 times out of 10 if I go down it's usually because a phantom sneaks up on me or a realy bad placed turret lol.
