A huge thank you to all the folks at Bioware.  You have been one of my favorite developers since Baldur's Gate and your RPGs have always been great.  This game, however is not just great, it is EXCEPTIONAL!!  The level of detail and cinematics as well as freedom of taking whatever path you choose through the game give this game extreme replay value.  Not only that, but the many romance options and large selection of companions is incredible.  I have been playing video games since back in the Atari days when I was a little kid and playing this game is one of the first times I have been so completely immersed in a game that I lost track of time repeatedly.
I convinced a friend of mine to try this game by using the words "awesome" and "best RPG EVER" repeatedly.  After he bought it he told me that he was so into playing it that at one point he began having hunger pains because he was so into it that he didn't want to take a break to get something to eat.  I knew exactly what he was talking about (though I always manage a quick run to the microwave when I'm hungry).
I have been playing this game since it came out and continue to find different paths and things that I have missed on the first couple of plays through it.  For me, I will judge all other RPGs from now on against this game.  It is a masterpiece.

I don't know if DA:O can dethrone Chrono Trigger for me, but so far, I have been quite impressed. I do agree that it's a masterpiece, well done Bioware.

Now I may have to go find a copy of Mass Effect and play it as well.

DA:O is great and I'm glad so many of my friends are picking it up so we can share the experience. However, the Baldur's Gate series is still my favorite with Planescape: Torment close behind that. DA:O makes me want to go back and experience those games again.

I'd probably love it.  I do enjoy the sci-fi setting for RPGs, and sadly, it is rarely used.  Thanks for the recommendation.

It is definitely the best one for me, specially because all others are in the past and this is what is right now making me journey over long long session hours and I can't get enough of it!

I can't declare it best RPG ever, but it's up there for me.

I don't like giving things rankings unless something is so clearly above for me.

Hmm. What is my favorite?

In anycase, DAO is basically exactly the game I was hoping it to be so I'm very happy.

I simply lost hours and hours into this game, the characters are so elequent, realistic and makes me want to care about them, and my choices do matter unlike some RPG's COUGH FABLE 2 COUGH.

It is certainly the best i have played. I prefer traditional fantasy setting with swords and magic. NWN was great and i thought NWN2 was good too but those were more tools released to the public to make their own adventures with that happened to include a campaign for the purchaser to enjoy as well.

DA:O has completely sucked me in like no game has for years and years.

Yeah, definetely one of the best RPG ever created. Intriguing chars, interesting plot (despite not particularly original), very tactical combat, high replayability.

In my RPG top list along with Torment, BG 2, KotOR, Fallout 3, Morrowind and the second Eye of the Beholder

Very good game. I would put it up in top 5 rpgs. But I would have to say my favorite was either Diablo or Fallout 3. With Oblivion and Champions of Norrath right behind em.

The pnp is supposedly set for a release next year, so not that unbearably long to wait.

For me out of the Bioware games DAO only rates second starting from last (last being Jade Empire). The game lacks a lot of what makes an RPG game and having played nearly ALL western and eastern RPGs for the past 19 years (started playing RPGs at 10 and now i am almost 30) i cant shake the feeling that DAO is a new franchise to capture the new and young players mostly. Us old dogs with bags of experience can see it as clear as day.

It was at least fortunate that they developed a new franchise than go about and kill an old one. If DAO came about with a name like Baldurs Gate it would have been a disgrace to the name.

I have to disagree with you on that, Sam. I've been PC/CRPGs for...well...a long time. Let's just say I vividly remember Secret of the Silver Blades and the original Pool of Radiance. (had a ROCKIN' Tandy) I've also been playing pnp versions this whole time.

While I completely agree trying to continue to build BG on the DA:O system would have put a bad taste in my mouth, I very much like DA:O, and find it has a lot of the elements I like in a good CRPG. And I'm not talking about the basics, like multiple classes, races, xp/point based leveling system, etc.

- Multiple dialogue options/action choices mean a wider range of character development possibilities

- Highly interactable NPCs, who are interesting and have stories of their own

- Intriguing, non-linear quests

Plus, it adds to all of that with a better ability to both influence and keep track of influencing party members, a well structured trust/intimidate, and great side quests. Not to mention slam bang action and beautiful graphics in an incredibly detailed, immersive world setting.

Yup, all in all DA:O ranks right up there in my faves, and I think what is most exciting about this game is just how big it is and how much potential it has.

DA:O is by far one of the best RPGs out there, It is not perfect of course, but that is impossible anyways. If it is my favorite RPG im not sure, but atleast one of the top 5. The story is great, but i do miss one thing that i have come to love from Bioware, and that is mind blowing twists in the story, This game did not rely. But what this game has that no other game has, are very good companion characters. There are just so much dialog with them and you rely get to know them over the course of the game, and they also surprise you from time to time.

Some more than others of course, like Morrigan and Alistair.

I agree. It's one of the few games that makes me not only glad to play it, but grateful that it's done so well.

Thanks, Bioware.
