DA:O definitely beats the Witcher for me.

- No insanely stupid "hunt for sex" gamecards and likewise "adventures". Such things are not in the Witcher books either, by the way.

Agreed there, thank god they are achievements instead of cards with DA:O ;)

- No endless annoying collection of potion ingredients to have the best potions ready.

I didn't find that to be a problem, there were plenty ingredients to find on a normal playthough, never had to go out of my way to solely collect ingredients

- OMG how much better combat, words fail me. Instead of having to hit one and the same stupid braindead boring frequency of attacks again and again and again and ... actually real choices of what to do.

From your perspective I would agree, DA:O's combat system is based on typical D&D style combat, spell/ability choices. However I loved the combat, especially after getting the higher tier abilities. It had a nice pace to it as well. Sometimes (especially in the Deep Roads) combat in DA:O became a bit boring. Mouseclicking in the Witcher, using the same strings of spells/abilities in DA:O over and over.

- Full group play with pause and play.

The Witcher has a pauze option though not necessary to beat encounters. Party based play is fun but wouldn't call this a detraction from a game that is not party based.

- Real Mages under my control.

Non-party based game of a predefined character template, although the player is free to define his personality by the dialog responses.

- Freely chooseable main character.

To an extend, each origin gives you a predefined character, there's just more to choose from ;)

The only thing where Witcher beats DA:O is with the potion system. Once you had collected the "&(&"&!%&"!!! ingredients, you could do wonders with them.

The potion system was fun yes. It fits the lore, potions and swords is what made Witchers ;)

Yep, BG2 for me as well.

I've about 1/2 way through DAO, I'm not actually sure I will make it much further though. I'm switching to MW2 & L4D2 instead.

I thought that DA was terrific. Enjoyed it as much as I did NWN2, Kotor, and The Witcher. ME still stands out above the rest for me though. I'm not sure what it was exactly, maybe the plausible Sci-Fi setting, maybe the emotional intensity of full VO, but that game just did it for me. Still I put 160 hours of my life into DA, and no regrets. That says it all right there IMO. :)

Dragon Age ended the disappointing decline of fantasy RPG standards that began with Throne of Bhaal and reached its nadir by Neverwinter Nights 2.

Baldur's Gate 2 Shadows of Amn and Thief 2: The Metal Age are the two games I have replayed more than any other and can still enjoy time and time again. Dragon Age has made it three and Bioware has once again set the standard against which all fantasy RPGs and hell, most games should be judged.

I love Dragon Age, it's up there with some of my favorite rpgs. Who cares whether or not it's better than other games, I wouldn't waste my time worrying about things like that. This will be a game that play over again for years to come like Baldur's Gate is, as is Planescape:Torment. Every game has its flaws. Hell, my favorite game of all time, Shenmue, had lots of flaws, it doesn't stop it from being a masterpiece however. Same with DA:O

So BioWare, a sincere thank you from a young fan, who does not like reading all the abuse you get from the more self centered population of my age group, I hope it makes you feel better to know you have some young fans that really appreiciate what you are doing, what you have done, and what you are soon going to do...

I'm thoroughly enjoying DA and for me it's really one of the best RPG ever. But more than for DA I need to thank Bioware about all the excellent RPGs delivered so far and also especially for delivering the Infinity Engine. I can only fondly recall Baldur's Gate II and Black Isle's Planescape Torment and Icewind Dale (yes I now, "just" an action RPG) developed over Infinity.

Talking about Icewind Dale, I've recently developed a recurring thought concerning DA: having the possibility to replay with a fully customized party. DA would be striped out of the RPG elements but the action & customization element would be outstanding. But I diverge...
