Agreed there, thank god they are achievements instead of cards with DA:OGecon wrote...
DA:O definitely beats the Witcher for me.
- No insanely stupid "hunt for sex" gamecards and likewise "adventures". Such things are not in the Witcher books either, by the way.
I didn't find that to be a problem, there were plenty ingredients to find on a normal playthough, never had to go out of my way to solely collect ingredients- No endless annoying collection of potion ingredients to have the best potions ready.
From your perspective I would agree, DA:O's combat system is based on typical D&D style combat, spell/ability choices. However I loved the combat, especially after getting the higher tier abilities. It had a nice pace to it as well. Sometimes (especially in the Deep Roads) combat in DA:O became a bit boring. Mouseclicking in the Witcher, using the same strings of spells/abilities in DA:O over and over.- OMG how much better combat, words fail me. Instead of having to hit one and the same stupid braindead boring frequency of attacks again and again and again and ... actually real choices of what to do.
The Witcher has a pauze option though not necessary to beat encounters. Party based play is fun but wouldn't call this a detraction from a game that is not party based.- Full group play with pause and play.
Non-party based game of a predefined character template, although the player is free to define his personality by the dialog responses.- Real Mages under my control.
To an extend, each origin gives you a predefined character, there's just more to choose from- Freely chooseable main character.
The potion system was fun yes. It fits the lore, potions and swords is what made WitchersThe only thing where Witcher beats DA:O is with the potion system. Once you had collected the "&(&"&!%&"!!! ingredients, you could do wonders with them.
