Instead of "I don't know", what do you think Shepard's last ingame words should be?

Considering the fact that I feel Destroy is the only true option here, I think it'd be pretty great if Shepard---straight-faced, groaning in pain, and delivered in the most un-campy way possible---emphatically stated: "I refuse to let anyone assume direct control of us".

The Catalyst says synthesis is the final evolution of life.
The Catalyst is the leader of the Reapers.
Synthesis is a reaper ideal.

Association Fallacy.

How is it affecting them? Oh it changed their lights! Whoopdeedoo! That says nothing.

If it didn't do anything to them, why then have the artistic cue?

By your logic, Project Overlord didn't do anything to the Geth either. It changed their lights! Whoopdeedoo!

Dude. The Catalyst is ACTIVELY PROMOTING SYNTHESIS.
That is not association fallacy.

To demonstrate that all life is now uniform. All are one with the Reapers.
One with the Reapers. BioWare's phrasing. Not mine.

We saw Overlord affect the Geth. We did not see synthesis "change" the Reapers.
Why would they change anyway? Synthesis vindicates their philosophy completely.

It is not association fallacy to say that the Catalyst supports Synthesis.
It IS association fallacy to say that Synthesis is bad because the Catalyst supports it.

Life is clearly not uniform, as all the forms of life we see in Synthesis are still distinct.

They stopped attacking and left, without Shepard making them, while they clearly had the upper hand. How is that not a change?

Ieldra has some very nice theories on that, have you read her threads?

Actually I didn't say synthesis is bad here. I think synthesis is bad for various reasons.
I'm only pointing out that this is submission to the Catalyst's and the Reapers ideal. Whether you think that ideal is good or not in this form is up to you, but it *is* their ideal.

Life is clearly not uniform, as all the forms of life we see in Synthesis are still distinct.

Okay look even BioWare are saying there's now one "life". Variations exist, but all follow the same template in the image of the Reapers.

They stopped attacking and left, without Shepard making them, while they clearly had the upper hand. How is that not a change?

They stopped attacking because Reaper shall not kill Reaper.
Specifically, their targets are organics. Hybrids are not viable targets. It's that simple.

Ieldra has some very nice theories on that, have you read her threads?

I've seen a few theories. Some are good, some aren't. But it's all speculation. I'm just applying Occam's Razor to this.

There's a difference between submitting to someone and merely agreeing with them.
Saren wanted Synthesis under Reaper control; Shepard does not.

That only explains why they stopped shooting, not why they left. If we submitted to them and they haven't changed, why didn't they stay to shepherd us in our new "Reaper enlightenment?"

Until I know more, I'm going to go with Ieldra's interpretation on this - that they are slaves of the Catalyst (being "his solution," despite being "each a nation" of "billions of organic minds" ) and that Synthesis is actually setting them free.

Your "razor" involves opening our own veins out of grimdark. I don't subscribe to it and never will.

In this case: Shepard is The Rock and Kevin Kelly is the StarChild....Works perfectly!

What Shepard wants? 5 minutes ago Shepard didn't even know what synthesis was.
That's not long enough to make a valid opinion on a galaxy changing event. Shepard is swallowing the Catalyst's claims wholesale if they pick synthesis, thus it is submission. It's submission because Shepard isn't making an informed choice.

Link to this statement?

Twas a twitter post by Gamble which I can't currently dig up.
I hate twitter.

Because they don't care? They'll probably be off to terrorise Andromeda or something.
Actually we don't even know they leave. All we see is that they quit the battle.

Until I know more, I'm going to go with Ieldra's interpretation on this - that they are slaves of the Catalyst (being "his solution," despite being "each a nation" of "billions of organic minds" ) and that Synthesis is actually setting them free.

You can do so, but that's pure conjecture.

Your "razor" involves opening our own veins out of grimdark. I don't subscribe to it and never will.

If you say so. I'm not even arguing the darker points of synthesis here. Just pointing out that Shepard is placing their total trust in the leader of the Reapers for no reason. That is basically submission, Shepard is not gaining anything out of the Catalyst, the Catalyst is stating "this is so, now do this", and Shepard does so.
