The ME spark is lost... and somehow Star Wars Episode I- III were redeemed

Well after the ending was around for like a month, I seriously started to think: "Hey I can salvage this in my Pen & Paper Conversion for Savage Worlds."
But nope! My friends and I tried it... We created characters (the joy was seriously lacking by then already) we started playing... and after half an hour we went out to watch "The AVENGERS". (Watch it! It definitely is a far better alien invasion story!)
One of my players said: "The whole lore of the Universe feels upside down, now that I know that there is this insane logic behind the reapers..."
We all found the universe unenjoyable after this. We all agreed on liking it more, when the Reapers just hated our organic guts.
I have NEVER ever seen such Ingame depression.
We returned to playing Star Wars, and we noticed something funny. We of course immediately talked about ME3's edning compared to the prequels, and something interesting came up: Even the most ardent haters of the Prequel trilogy among us, didn't think, that the story of Star Wars was as violently raped as the story of Mass Effect. We came to the conclusion, that we mainly hated the Prequels for having ridiculous characters - that don't need to exist - and for bad casting. We all agreed that the basic storyline, how Anakin turns to the dark side is in fact quite good and understandable. We just think Hayden can't act for scheiße :innocent:!
We all liked Ewan MacGregor, he was a worthy Obi-Wan. We all liked Miss Portman, who can act.
We all hated CGI Yoda (The puppet from the old trilogy still looks WAAAAAY better) but thought it okay of having him fight. And the list could go on and on and on...
Sure some characters were really pushed, but all in all it wasn't a franchiserape as bad as ME3's ending.
George Lucas did not destroy the integrity of his franchise.
Mass Effect 3 destroyed the whole universe for us.
Now that we are back playing Star Wars Pen & Paper (BTW we all don't play MMORPGs) we have somewhat lost all interest in anything ME related. So this post is some sort of goodbye.
I enjoyed discussing the various themes of the MEU with you guys. I even enjoyed raging about ME3's ending. I enjoyed all of it. Thanks BSN, you guys are a great community. I will return if the Extended Cut (Or any following ending DLC) is any good or if BioWare redeems themselves otherwise, but for now I will not push the main discussion anymore:
So long and thanks for all the Geth!
P.S: I will occasionally check in. JKust because I liiiiike you guys...<3

Welp, it has happened. The engine that drove my enthusiasm for the Mass Effect Universe has died down. I am so disinterested in the game, I can't really describe it. I have no urge to play any of it. How did it come to this I thought?

You think that the next BW game will be a bestseller because it will have words Don't Panic! written in bold on it's shipping box?
Jokes aside... you actually made a lot of good points. Not a big fan of SW (I prefer Star Trek lol) but you are right about many absurd characters in episodes 1-3. And yeah, it was not a franchiserape. Hmm. Maybe I will watch some Star Wars movie today...

The Star Wars prequels sucked throughout the whole plot, ME3 just sucked in the end. So, no, I don't agree, though I concede that the whole reaper logic pretty much ruins the rest of the trilogy.
^^ This. Although OP, I have to say that I hated everything about episodes I-III, except CGI Yoda - dont get me wrong he wasnt a patch on pupet Yoda but I thought it worked. The acting on the other had was terrible and it came from some brilliant actors, those films where just wrong.

Seconded. And the Star Wars prequels also manage to retroactively ruin the first trilogy, especially considering how Lucas is trying to "improve" upon the originals all the time.

Oh and dr_random: just look at the basic plotline of the SW prequels and then decide if the story sucks! We thought the movies sucked, but not the basic story.

Honestly, I'm with the OP.
ME3 sucked throughout the whole plot too, the end was just that much worse that you don't notice until you look back.
It too managed to retroactively ruin ME1, ME2 and ME3 for many people, as plot holes make some things in ME1 and ME2 irrelevent, and it destroys the Reapers as enemies.
SW I - III at least didn't have the absolutely horrid ending that ME3 had. The worst it got there was the Vader Rage "NOOOOOOO!".

They were horrid from start to finish, whereas ME3 only featured a terrible ending.
"Only Vader rage"? A little "noooo" was the least of my concerns WRT the atrocity that's the star wars prequels: plotless CGI-atrocities, the lot of them.

Episodes I-III were not great, but at least Lucas stuck to the story structure.
There barely *was* a plot, and what little there was happened to be convoluted and weak.

It's this incessant improving that is completely destroying the series for me . He never needed to change a thing , simple digital clean up of the picture would've sufficed . Who could have ever thought that the scene of Han standing on Jabba's tail would work ?
If only i could go back to that day when i went and watched A New Hope for the first time.

At least the annoying kid is shown briefly in ME3 and he has like what 12 lines total in the game. The annoying kid in SW is there through 2/3rds of the first movie after which he turns into a whiny douchebag for the rest of the prequels, not to mention the presence of an abomination called Jar-Jar Binks. And even the plot suck and make no sense. Even a great actor like Ian Mcdiarmid cant save that mess. These movies cant be redeemed until they are completely remade, preferably without George Lucas deciding on everything.

ME didn't have the gawd-awful "acting" job by Hayden "Block o' Wood" Christiansen And his complete lack of chemistry with Natalie Portman. The dialogue was pretty awful, even bu Lucas standards. Sure he can do shiny fight scenes well but outside of that it was quite a mess.

I was indeed interested in the story that led to the classic movie plot but I didn't read any of the books. Yes, the prequel movies spoilt that for me but I largely don't care about it. I just enjoy the classics and forget about the rest. Trying to do that for ME, too.

But the Mass Effect story has steadily gone downhill with every game, until it fell off a cliff at the end of ME3.

I hugely prefer Mass Effect to SW, even after the ending. SW deals too much in absolutes for me, and I dislike the concept of the Force. In Mass Effect, I appreciate the revelation of the Reapers' purpose in the end. Without that the story would have been incomplete for me. The problem is the abysmal, utterly retarded execution that uses contradictory and nonsensical phrasing to keep the ending more open.

What about asking in the next DLC to have a new team mate : Jar Jar Binks?
The similitude between the 2 artistic products will be great

Darth Vader: "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO"
That's hard.
