So I'm replaying ME1 and I'm thinking about the final choice.  The paragon/renregade choices are pretty straight forward, but I keep thinking back to the 'neutral' option.

How would you feel if instead of losing the DA/Council, the choice saved the dreadnought - but it took some hits and as a result the current council got killed?

This would, ideally, actually give the neutral option some weight.

If only the council dies, I'd choose this option every time.

Actually, I first went with the neutral option. I was thinking of it if this was a real situation. If it was, I would probably tell everyone to concentrate on the big threat instead of losing precious ships to save the lives of four leaders who ignored all warnings and  mostly put themselves in this position. At least, I thought it was simply the Council alone that would die.

But yeah, the neutral option is pretty much the same as the renegade one. Except that neutral is "nice" and does not outright state to abandon the Council. It may even give the idea that the Council might be saved after or while the Alliance deals with the big bad.

So I actually like your idea, LegionMan. It seems well suited for the neutral response.

This was one of the things I really appreciate about ME1, and wish had been done more in ME2: even when faced with a choice with only two effective outcomes, they give you a middle option. Naturally the middle option's effect is the same as one of the others (eg. council dies, rachni queen lives), but the reasoning behind your decision is different than if you had gone for the straight up paragon or renegade option.

Apologies for the moderate thread necro.
