But wouldn't the pro's feel better by legitimately beating the game? For even bigger challenge?

You are right to an extent, but we had the same discussion with Eviscerator vs Claymore in ME2. It boils down to risk vs reward vs punishment for missing. Some people hate the claymore with a passion because if you miss a shot or mess up somehow, you'll pay a high price. Reload canceling is a high risk - high reward playstyle. You muck up a reload in close quarters and you're dead. If you can manage to do it consistently, well you see the result on video.

Sure, and they do. See some of GP's gold runs with Asari Adepts, and other players doing it with Turian Sentinels and other underdog classes for that!
Tbh, the last thing you should be complining about when considering the God mode that is GI is reload cancelling.

There's nothing illegitimate about reload cancelling or quick scoping.
I mean, I really can't take someone seriously when they actually come out and call aiming quickly an exploit.

Exactly what I think as well, theres no point in using semi auto shotguns when you can shoot faster with the reload cancel. And about people saying it makes the game more skillfull doing this, just get a mouse that can do macros and whoop every shot you do will do the cancel perfectly timed. Thats also not conisdered cheating in any FPS btw.
The thing is, it is a design flaw not a working as intended mechanic, wether it is considered ok to use or not.

The problem isn't the reload cancel, it's the higher rate of fire guns lacking in general.
All they need to do is bring the ROF in line with certain relaod cancels, then up the performance of certain guns so people can choose:
Higher damage with potential high ROF at a risk (reload cancel)
or
Lower (but decent) damage but constant high ROF at no risk (inherent high ROF weapon)
The choice then wouldn't be so clear cut. Right now it's not worth taking many higher rate of fire guns on certain classes simply because even without reload cancel they're not as effective.
Bring them in line and we get the chance to risk RCs for higher damage, or take a gun that can perform well and shoot more wihout having to clutter your managment with an extra task.

As for the music, I briefly contemplated including Justin Beiber & Call Me Maybe but I don't think that would've gone down well

Actually... using macros / modded controllers is considered cheating in many contexts, and using macros or modded controllers is banned from every tournament I've encountered. So yeah.

This^.
Regardless of what some claim, it takes a certain level of skill to maintain a consistent reload cancel and keep your game accurate. MAcros remove all challenge in that regard, which removes enjoyment for many.

Nice video, regardless of class used Gold solo is a decent achievement. Although I will say this does highlight just how "effective" the GI is.

Reload cancelling on the other hand is a staple, and generally recognized as a good thing by many game designers, which is why it's often implemented purposefully.
Sure at tournaments it is, thats obvious but im talking about normal online gameplay. You will never get banned using a mouse or keyboard with macrofuntions that do nothing but a set of keystrings that you could do normally as well.

Impressive. I'll have a look!
Edit: wish you could medi gel cancel on xbox
Why in the hell would you wish that? Down on the d-pad for reload cancels? That couldn't be more inconvenient if you had to hit it on a different controller.
You realize you can reload cancel with powers even if they're on cooldown or the sprint button, right?
You do realize that canceling with powers is nowhere near as fast as what he is doing in this video right, and that you can't do it rapidly several times in a row like he does? And that the sprint button pulls you into cover 50% of the time when you try to do it?
Obviously i know basic game mechanics, don't try to teach me how to play.
Calm down, boy. There's no reason to get your panties all in a bunch over a recommendation based on the obvious evidence that you DON'T know game mechanics OR have any simple spatial awareness. You CAN cancel with power buttons in rapid succession because it doesn't matter if your powers are on cooldown or not. And cancelling with sprint doesn't unintentionally pull me into cover but maybe 5% of the time, so there's more reason to believe you're clueless.
And how about the fact that you think medigel canceling would be as quick on the xbox as it is on PC when it's DOWN ON THE D-PAD. They probably didn't let us use that by conscious design, because they figured nobody would have the sort of deformed claw it would take to make that more convenient on an xbox controller than the options we already have.
Cry more or learn to adapt. I reload cancel consistently on the 360 so its the user not the design when it comes to you failing.

Question: What is medi gel cancelling?
When the reload animation shows the thermal clip placed into the chamber and you hear the click, hit a a power (power can be in CD) or item use button and the animation will cancel there and allow you to fire right aay instead of waiting for the reload animation to complete.

No worries, after all it's a feature that you see in video, so technically the discussion is on topic.
Browsing through my fraps folder I see I've recorded a squad game where I compete with a Valiant wielding SI. Me on GI with Claymore. He keeps so close to me in score, it's unbelieavable - FB Hydra vs Geth. Both of us finish 120k+ with the others trailing behind at 40k. Might post that next.

If you were one of the lucky ones that gained medigel capacity while it was still capped at 10 instead of 5, and while the rest of us were getting Arc Pistol upgrades, yeah, it's totally ridiculous =)

How do you reload cancel?
Reload canceling - a technique used to shorten reload times and be ready to fire faster by canceling part of the reloading animation.
If you break down the reload animation into parts, there are several: you run out of ammo (shows 0 ammo in chamber), your character starts reloading, ammo appears in gun chamber (ammo counter shows full - in Claymore's case 1 round), your character finishes the reloading animation and you are finally ready to fire.
If you do nothing, and keep pressing the "fire" button you will only fire a button after the whole cycle is complete.
However, if you perform an action as soon as the ammo counter changes from 0 to full, the remaining part of the reloading animation is cancelled and you can fire immediately.
Methods of reload canceling: On Xbox you can cancel with the sprint/take cover button, the health pack button, or using any power from the power wheel.
On PC: The same as on xbox plus using medigel to cancel the reload (note it will not consume medigel as you are not actually bleeding out).
Most effective use of reload cancel is with weapons that have long reload times - most notably bolt action sniper rifles and single shot shotguns. It can work with other weapons, but not as effective due to the short duration of reload animation.
Hope that helps.
