I take Tali and Garrus so he's guaranteed to die.

But to make him die, he doesn't have to be loyal yo Shepard, right?

Garrus and Miranda are pretty safe picks there.

No he dies even if he is loyal because he sucks at holding the line.Dantexr3 wrote...

That also seems to have an effect. Not sure if it is just for non-crew members.
Not at all, actually

No. If he's loyal he survives. He only dies when loyal if you put him in charge of something.

He dies if the "defense value" of the hold the line team is low enough; so he can be loyal and die, or unloyal and survive

There are a variety of ways of killing Mordin without risking others.Dantexr3 wrote...
But, making Mordin die in the ducts, will not provoke the death of another squadmate? I just want to kill Mordin and no more (well, I don't care if Jacob dies too).
Ducts
Fire team leader
Let him be taken by seeker swarms
Manipulate events by getting him killed in holding the line.
All of them involve no others dieing if done correctly.

No you'll be fine. But you should kill Jacob too. Because you have to take the moments when you can. So true.

As far as I know, non-loyal squad members on hold the line will still die first if the defense average is < 2.0. There's some pretty good mechanics threads over in the ME2 campaign section that describe the process in detail, and additionally there's guides to getting specific outcomes if you wish.
