As far as I know, non-loyal squad members on hold the line will still die first if the defense average is < 2.0. There's some pretty good mechanics threads over in the ME2 campaign section that describe the process in detail, and additionally there's guides to getting specific outcomes if you wish.

Yup, someone even make a "Suicide mission calculator" wich is pretty handy

If you want get rid of Mordin while still doing his loyalty, you best bet is to send him in the vent
Speaking of wich, is Tali the only squadmember to actually mention her role in the suicide mission ?

Tali and Jack will comment on their roles.

If he's not loyal you could always have him escort the Normandy Crew back to the ship. I believe he'll get offed.

I prefer Wiks actually. You can say both Mordin and Padok redeemed themselves in the end.

To lose a loyal Mordin:
At the swarm, let Miranda be the biotic specialist.
Take Mordin with you along with either Tali, Kassumi, Zaeed or Morinth

Loyality does not matter for any of these. It is a straight priority list.

No he dies even if he is loyal because he sucks at holding the line.

No. If he's loyal he survives. He only dies when loyal if you put him in charge of something.

He dies if the "defense value" of the hold the line team is low enough; so he can be loyal and die, or unloyal and survive

He dies randomnly, at least it has been for me when I haven't sent him back to the Normandy, it is hardly guaranteed though if he is loyal. If you have Zaed and Kasumi, and nobody has died you'll probably meet the minimum defense value easily. The only guaranteed way to kill him off is to either not do his loyalty quest or do the loyalty quest and put him in a position to fail.

Send him in the vents. He's sort of techy, so it sort of makes sense in a derpy way. No points calculations involved. Just a guaranteed rocket in the face, loyal or unloyal.

the best way is just save edit him out of your game.

I put Thane there with Garrus and Miranda when I wanted to do a playthrough with Garrus dead.

Poor Garrus.

I made the mistake to belive her :pinched:

But I'm saying in ME3, Tali and Jack make a quick comment over their role in the Suicide mission (vents for Tali and biotic bubble for Jack)

No, it's not random at all, if depends of who you leave to hold the line: every character has a "defense value" (with a bonus if loyal) and the average of all those values determine who bite the ground: if it's >=2, everybody lives, if it's below, some allies start the fall; the unloyal first, and then Mordin is the next on the list

Nope, he dies irrespective of loyalty.

Trust me - this made me rage so so so much when Mordin kept dying for no reason!
It's a weird glitch, I tried taking him with me to the reaper to save him and instead Tali dies... <_<

In the end it took 2/3 attempts before I realised the best way to save him is to send him with the crew. Otheriwse it's very dodgy.

Tell him to lead the squad during the swarm level in 2. You get the emotional farewell and padok both, so everybody wins.
