As the title, not sure what bonus power to run with my NG+ soldier on Insanity.

Planning on using AR with the 1 offensive power evolution, not sure what to pick.

Is Marksman usable in conjunction with AR?

My other choice would be proximity mine with the weaken enemy option for tougher enemies.

Any help would be great.  Cheers.  McBeath.

Marksman cannot be used concurrently with AR. My recommendation would be energy drain for an anti-shield power and added durability in one power. Most enemies go down quickly enough with incendiary ammo/explosive burst and a rapid fire weapon that I doubt you would get much of a benefit from proximity mine's weakening, though I haven't tried it.

Do you care about having a pure class or not?

You cannot use Marksman under Adrenaline Rush. You can stack damage protection for the defensive powers with ARush's though, if you want.

You mentioned Proxi Mine and that is technically a Tech power so I will assume no. That is a good option. And yes the "Damage Taken" evolution is quite noticeable on large targets, and if MP is an indicator, you should be able to stack vulnerability from you mine and other squad member's powers.

Energy Drain is also very good as it can deplete shields, restore your shields, and stun enemies. This is what I used on my NG+ soldier. It might be one of the best all around bonuses.

For a pure class, Carnage isn't horrible as an outright replacement for Concussive Shot.

Then you have the biotics Reave and Slam which would also be useful.

Go with energy drain. Will make your life much easier. Proximity mine is decent but a soldier needs survivability more than a damaging power. Thats what guns are for. Reave is also good but you have medigel for that.

Energy Drain is a solid choice. I currently use that as my Soldier bonus power.

As mentioned by others, Marksman cannot be used during Adrenaline Rush.

Slam or Reave are also excellent choices. Reave may be too good. You can use it to set up or detonate biotic explosions with all biotic powers except Kaidan's Reave (Reave cannot detonate Reave). Slam is the better crowd-control power; you can evolve it to have a wider radius and a decent stun duration.

Proximity Mine should work, although I have not used that yet. Carnage is a more-damaging Concussive Shot, but is slower and has a longer cooldown. Carnage must be evolved to knock down enemies while Concussive Shot does that automatically.

id say energy drain is probably #1 power to choose, other than that its between reave and carnage imo

Energy Drain = for depleting enemy shields or barrier plus survival
Defense Matrix = panic button emergency 100% shield restored
Reave = similar to Energy Drain but with a lil' bit different effect and only available if Kaidan is alive

this 3 is the best u can have for insanity difficulty, if ur playing in lower difficulties take Carnage instead

I would give my left nut-sack for Reave in ME3. It was by far my favourite bonus power in ME2 and I would love to add that skill to my Shepard's arsenal in ME3. Shame the only way to get it is to have Kaidan alive. I think I have a save somewhere with him alive, now all I need is the desire to ever want to play ME3 again.

I'm surprised at the amount of people who recommend Energy Drain. I've never tried that before, is it really that good, if it is and if it really does work a bit like Reave ( and that's a big if, alot of people told me that Javik's Dark Channel was a bit like Reave and I hated it ) then I might give that Bonus power a go somewhere down the line.

Energy Drain's shield/synthetic-draining power is good, but not the entire story. Since only the tougher enemies have protection, you will not be using it to drain shislds as often as you could in ME2. Shield Drain will stun or stagger most basic enemies, allowing you to line up a clean shot, or rush in for the kill.

Exactly. Energy Drain is excellent now that it basically gets ME2 level 1 Neural Shock for free.

I used fortification. I also like carnage. TBH I role play the classes I choose. For example I wouldn't give my soldier engineer or adept type abilities.

Thanks for the replies!

Not in love with a "pure" soldier, though I tend to shy away from biotics. Right now my load out is the falcon, though I'd like to run the revenant. I tend to keep either ashley or james around with a falcon + cryo ammo for crowd control.

With this I'm finding that most basic enemies are frozen, especially if your good at ordering them to attack groups. I was thinking of a way for me to take out the boss like enemies.

Mine would be decent for that, as long as you make sure to take the "Damage Taken" evolution, which I think is actually 25% in SP.

Reave might be better since it can setup or detonate biotic explosions, and gives DR.  Energy Drain can setup and detonate Tech Bursts as well, which can help a bit on the large enemies.

I'm with HTTP 404 on this.

You're a soldier, dag-nab-it! Act like one! Go with Fortification. You'll be able to dodge grenades even while turrets are targeting you. You can pop out of cover and drop the enemy before he drops you.

As far as stripping shields/barriers/armor goes: you've got ammo powers for all occasions. Forget tech/biotic powers; you'll be too busy spamming Adrenaline Rush.

As for bosses... three words: Carnifex. Hand. Cannon.

Seriously, the purpose of the game is to have fun playing it. Pick the bonus power you think would be the most fun and don't look back.

yes exactly.  use more bullets to take down boss types or bring in squadmates that can help in those situations like Garrus since he uses armored piercing and has overload.  the carnifex is a very good ace in your pocket against armored oppenents but if you are a sniping type soldier get the black widow or wait for the regular widow.  When your ammo for those sniper rifles hit zero use adrenaline to automatically reload and continue firing.

I'm on my 3rd playthrough with my Soldier.

Only weapon is the Particle Rifle with the Inferno Ammo equipped.

Bonus power is Energy Drain.

I'm completing my Insanity run today with him.

Works very well.

Particle Rifle - check
Inferno Ammo - check

Yep, pretty much all you need.

P.S.: You might want to consider adding the Carnifex with the armor penetration mod.  Great for killing Guardians through their shields... or anyone who just likes to take cover (I'm look at you, nemesis).

I just beat Insanity and got my last 2 achievements. Insanity and Unwavering.

So now ME 3 joins ME 1 and 2 as 100% complete. 52 of 52 on ME 3. And, yes, I am proud.

The
only problems for me were Kia Leng's last fight and especially Marauder
Shields at the end. Other levels I had to keep checking that the
difficulty was still on Insanity.

And yes, battleship, I use my Carnifex X on lower difficulties, but I wanted a super fast cool-down on Insanity for my AR, CS and Energy Drain.

Thankfully it worked out well.

Kai Leng can be irritating, but there are various ways to mitigate it. My most recent run I had the Black Widow and Raider V's with Carnage as a bonus. -26% cooldown bonus with full weight capacity. Even brought Tali along to hear her dialogue after the video terminal.

Basically it goes smoother with combos. My most common squad on this mission has been EDI and Garrus for dual Overloads and more common Tech Bursts, but this time I utilized Tali's Sabotage with Tech Vulnerability and Backfire first, then hit Overload, and or Carnage (under ARush) for nice combos. Add on 6 grenades for the Phantoms, and aimed Raider and Black Widow fire, and it isn't so bad.

The most fun way I have done this as soldier was with a Revenant with maxed Disruptor though. Goes a lot like this:

But Raider was pretty fun too. :)

I know it's redundant for a soldier to have another ammo power but I really like AP ammo. Cuts down waves of enemies plus kills heavies quickly and guys in cover. I never use incendiary cause I like the blood splatter that AP causes.

Fortification works well too.

I like the way you think, I also do this , I have done runs in ME and ME2 using lift and reave. . .but it just doesn't feel right so I stick with combat bonus powers for my soldier. . . .B)
