So, do we actually all agree on this? Because that would be.... just.... I have no words.

I disagree on the principle of how unimportant I find the issue as a contrast to how strongly everyone else seems to agree.

So you don't really care, but you'd like to be difficult. Noted! Image IPB

When I see people talk about how horrible DA2's implementation was I have no choice but to disagree because that's plain ridiculous. To my eyes. It has nothing to do with 'being difficult.'

I want to sign this, but I had to fight through two bioware openings just to get to the signature creator.

I just LOL'd. Image IPB

I agree with pretty much everything that's been said, but I'd like to add PLEASE KEEP THE BLACK EMPORIUM MIRROR OR SOMETHING SIMILAR! (and I never shout, so you know it's important).

Customizing your character after seeing about 10 shots of *canon* Hawke was also really weird. And no one in your playthrough noticed that you suddenly had red hair instead of black. If we're not to do the character customization right off the bat, I'd like to at least see it Skyrim-style where you're in first person until you customize so that there isn't a weird sudden change in your appearance.

And this is only kind of related, but I also found it strange that your family's hairstyles would change through each playthrough. Based on your dialogue choices, or random? - I don't actually know, but aside from reloading to fix my Hawke I would consistently go "dangit - I HATE Leandra with those bangs!" and reload just because I didn't want to keep looking at them for 30 more hours. What a bizarre thing for the company to spend zots on - especially with all their talk about emphasizing each npc's "signature" look.

I dont think you have to worry about the Black Emporium not returning. It was already hinted that it would be back in the next game. The developers joked that it was a chain.

Well, if the rest of you are agreeing, then I disagree.

Consensus is so mainstream.

Not wanting to be considered "mainstream" is kind of becoming mainstream....  =]

Honestly,I lol`d. Reminded me of Brian`s speech to the crowds in Monty Python`s Life of Brian

Just a tip for Bioaware.  I HATE when games make you play through a portion of the game before you get to use the Character Creator.  As anyone that has used one will know your character never looks the same when in actual game then they did in the Creator.  Due to this you normally have to re-make your character a few times before you get them to where you really want them.  Nothing was worse than having to fight through that group of Darkspawn and the Troll over and over again in DA2 just to get the the character creator again.  Don't do it again Bioware.  I beg you.

I agree...it was painful in ME2 and DA2. CC first please!

I support this thread strongly

EDIT: Also, DA2 did something right, to give you the chance to change your appearance afterwards with the mirror of transformation. Please re-include that feature for DA3

This looks like good news. Did they say if it was in the main game or DLC like last time? I ask because I don't have any DLC, and was a bit jealous not being able to have the Black Emporium. :P The lipstick color that I chose for my first Hawke was just one shade off (it looked right in the character creator's lighting), and wanted to change it without going back and recreating her whole face. Poor FemHawke, stuck with the same make-up for ten years.

Agree with the edits. It saves me when I get the cheek bones wrong (and it is always the cheek bones) and in cut scenes it looks goofy from angles I didn't see in the editor.

As for the character editor before or after...meh. Doesn't much matter. I understand the approach of getting you into the game and not loading up and slapping you with a big screen of numbers. What I will say is that the ME2 method or Skyrim (shorter granted) where you really don't see yourself works better than having some not-you character running around like ME2 did. I care more about that than when the editor happens.

ME2 did it and it was incredibily annoying. And it wasn't helped that you can't change they way you look afterwards.

I tend to get picky about my character's appearance and I would get to first concerstaion and think "No his eyes should be blue" at least several times.

Part of this forum's function is for people to discuss the setting and games in general, including what changes/improvements they'd like in any future Dragon Age games. Since DA2 was our last game, asking for these improvements in DA3 is as reasonable as any other title they could use.

They're making Dragon Age: The Next Thing.

Sure. Read the stickies on the DA II general board. They talking about companion customization in the next DA game.

I don't care where the character created is located. What I want is more control over the creation itself. I want to be able to see the character from multiple angles and with various facial expressions or even have them speak a few lines of sample dialogue.

Yes! I'm never happy with my first attempt at creating a character, so having to wait before getting another shot is annoying.

Also, getting the chance to see some facial animations would be great.

I'd like to be able to create my character before starting the game too. I hate having to sit through a gameplay sequence before getting to make my character. A skippable cinematic is ok but not something like DA2 did. I enjoy making new characters and it's annoying when I can't just jump straight into the character creator. Also, in DA2 it made me feel like I'd be playing the wrong Hawke if I changed my characters face. Like Hawke's official look in my DA2 story had all ready been established and if I changed that the story wouldn't be a proper retelling of events. Maybe that's the reason I didn't mind ME2's start even though it had gameplay before the creator, because Shepard was wearing a helmet and you never get to see their face.

I agree with every word, good sir. That design choice was plain bad. Reminds me of Saints Row 3, funny thing - SR3 did it better.

I think it is accepted that having a character creator before the start of the game is a good idea.
What I really want to know is "Will there be a chance to customize my characters attributes, talents/spells, and(hopefully) skills in the character creator?"

As for the Mirror of Transformation, there's no reason why that needs to be an in-game item. Just give us a menu option to change our appearance without trying to make the feature fit in the game world. It's a metagame feature. Just accept that and put it in a menu.

This, though the black shop thingy served as good humour, the mirror was a little over the top no? A wonderful thing, I had to adjust my nose a few times over, but that's not the point.
