So I'm a warden and I'm supposed to be able to sense the darkspawn?

It's why you can hear Darkspawn screaming and gnashing and guffawing long before you stumble across them. .

Possibly. But the problem with that explanation is that I hear that sound even if I am playing one of my other party members.

Ah, I missed someone else getting on this.  But...
In my own game, I couldn't hear the 'stealthed' ones without having Alistair selected.

We can sense the darkspawn... have you not had nightmares? cool, dark, terrifying nightmares? There you have it! More comes with time only, I suspect...

Alistair can sense the darkspawn. I noticed red circles on the minimap while I was frolicking through Korcari Wilds.

If Allister was able to sense them...they would'nt be able to pop out (so to speak) from the ground and nab us first. eh? But they do! I can hear them growling and I can smell those dirty bas*****...but detecting them and actually being able to gain a bonus by catching them off guard..are 2 different things. I have yet to be able to do this, even with high survival.

I always hear, "The Darkspawn have sensed us."

Or even if I hear "Darkspawn" (in a cute lil english accent) They STILL get a few hits off even before I can move!

I hate darkspawn...I think they cheat. lol

The Gray Wardens were just joking about that. Darkspawn eat a lot of beans and cabbages you see...

There are specific music/sound cues that play about 2-6 seconds before dark spawn surprise ambushes appear. You may want to listen harder its a trait you learn in L4D quite well. In the broader spectrem, you are seeing the blight spread on the world map/feel the Archdemon and so on.

the whole concept is mostly weaksauce. so i can dream of the dragon, and then what? what difference will it make even if i don't dream of it.

and the red blips come from the survival skill.

I guess they just wanted to make the game cool and darksey. having a simple questionnaire to join the wardens wouldn't have been dark enough so of course they had to kill a few guys. with a complete lack of rationale. -_-

Seems to me it was just good story telling. Drinking the blood was very dramatic. To be able to sence your enemy was the WHY for the dramatic element. Does it have to be a part of the game as well? I like a good story, but lets not get bogged down in details

Survival increases the distance you can sense other creatures up to your level. Having played a character with high survival, and one with low, I do believe there is a definate difference between what your mini map shows. Also, you DO see darkspawn at further distances even if you have low survival skill.

I noticed blotches on the world map that were moving, but I figured it was just ambient lighting. So that's darkspawn eh? Cool.

Just saying, seems like your warden should have his powers manifest somwhere along the line. After talking to Wynne she said I had left the circle tower almost a year ago.

To be fair, they say after the ambush that we can sense them and the PC will keep saying I sense darkspawn. Granted this is funny because often times it's something hostile and not Darkspawn but regardless. The real answer is they didn't want to impliment a mechanic or couldn't. Drinking magic potion in Wardens keep instantly teaches you how to shoot blood out offensively and use it to increase passive skills are increase your strength/weapons transmute it to mana. But we can't use it as a lowjack?

Survival, anyone?

With this skill you can sense every enemy, not only the darkspawn. This works pretty well, actually.

As explained multiple times in the campaign, you are new and do not have full use or control of your Grey Warden abilities yet.

But Alistair  can supposedly sense them well enough to make the trip into the Wilds safe, and he's been a Warden for six months. After a year or more of being a Warden toward the end of the game our PC never develops the ability, so what rationale is made up at this point?

Correct answer is probably "it got cut to save development costs."

Well, they never say how long Alistair has been a warden, just that he is the newest.
Also, perhaps the ability needs some training from a senior warden, which we seem to be short on.

Did noone of you listen to the Character-soundset?

When enemys approach all of them say sometimes: "Warden-senses tingling!"
-But this stupid script doesnt distinguish between Darkspawn and other enemys-

I hate that sentence! It sounds like im playing Peter"FU**ING SPIDERMAN"Parker!<_<

To be honest I cannot see ANY difference between Grey Wardens and 'normal' characters. I was expecting KotOR-style special 'Warden' class, with separate abilities, skills, etc. As it is now, our Wardens don't even get a Warden t-shirt. There's no difference between my Grey Warden mage and Morrigan. I started playing with a 'doomed saviour' type of character, one expecting to die while defending the world and now I turned to dumping corpses in wells* for some extra coin. Come to think of it... screw it. I'd rather lie drunk in an Antivan **** house than wade through mud and ****** on a Ferelden battle field. As a mage who spent most of his (hers) life locked away in a cozy, fortified magical tower, away from uneducated peasants who'd gladly brun me at the stake, why should I really give a damn, especially since it seems I'm unsupervised :bandit:?

* Looks like a used well... I should be hanged for poisoning city's water supply.

Considering the PC's reaction, I would say it was tomato juice. Poor guy, had he known what he was about to drink, he should have put himself together and drink darkspawn blood instead.

I thought the "sense darkspawn" ability was more of a general sense than a radar. So if there were two dozen genlocks hidden through out a castle, the Grey Warden would know as he drew close to the castle that there was darkspawn present, but wouldn't know which rooms to look in.

I'm fairly sure there are voice sets that say something like that. "Darkspawn are close!" and such, but we've never seen an experienced Grey Warden say "ZOMG Four genlocks and two hurlocks, behind that wall. One genlock is favoring his left leg, all of the others are farting. So we should maybe let the place air out before attacking."

TBH I thought 'sensing them' was that growling sound you hear, like in the Wilds when they pop out.

The darkspawn can sense any grey warden just as easily as a grey warden can sense a darkspawn.  It is a two-way taint.

Just realised something.  It's supposed to be a year from when you left the tower, yet Alistair says that he has only been a Gray Warden for about 6 months, which means that he underwent the joining after you were recruited/conscripted, which raises the question of why weren't you joined at the same time?

uh yes it does. if you talk to him in ther very beginning of the game when you first meet him he will tell you that duncan recruited him six months ago.
