Does DA2 have a system that "remembers" my actions?

I swear the random banter dialogue in this game reflects the personality of my character. One character is saracastic in banter while my other usually shows compassion and shows that in banter. I thought it was gender specific maybe but am I crazy? Or does the game really remember my personality?

Yes. Every time you select a particular type of dialogue, it adds up. If you have a majority of a certain type of dialogue, that determines what you say during auto dialogue situations.

It also affects some of your options.   You only get some quest options with certain types of personalities.

Here's a link with an explanation of the system from the game guide.

You can also fail certain "checks" depending on your personality (though this may be what Vormaerin meant) - ie, if you've been playing Hawke as a chucklehead, and you try to intimidate someone, you'll probably fail because you're not very intimidating.

Also - I THINK the system resets at the beginning of each chapter. So you can be snarky in one, and then go all compassionate in another. But I'm not 100% certain on that one.

Yeah, that's what I meant. You don't get the opportunity to intimidate the dalish assassins (for example) if you are not primarily aggressive in personality.

I don't think it resets. But it is based on overall amount of selections by type. So you could change personality if you don't go too far down one route.

Yeah, it does remember your personality, and it is AWESOME. Seriously, one of my favourite things about DA2.

That's awesome. I knew something was up.

It isn't subtle either, it's pretty obvious. That's why I asked. I love this...I hope it's in the hypothetical DA3.

I disliked it. Well, if you're going to take control away from the player I guess it's worse than stuffing everyone down the same path, but I'd rather not have that control taken away from the player.

Particularly since the personalities are so extreme. Just because my character has made slightly more Sarcastic comments than Diplomatic lately, does not mean they should turn into a clown.

I didn't like it. We should have been able to choose each time.

The game can't know why I chose one dialogue option over another, so it can't know the relevance of any aspect of that dialogue option.

I HATED it. There were many occasions where the auto-dialogue spoken by Hawke was not what I wanted to hear. Is it really that controversial to let players choose what the PC says at all times?

That would drag the game quite a bit

Good, that will give players time to think about their choices

Do dialogue events "drag the game"?

Playing my character is the whole reason I'm here.  If he ever says things that contradict my character design, the game is broken.
