My Human Noble is a two-handed warrior so I use the heirlooms as my second weapon set just in case Alistair (my main tank) dies or I need her to off-tank a particularly tough boss. I will probably use it that way the entire game, but it might be cool to have them be epic teir 7.
I was hoping though that the sword and shield would get some kind of upgrade after defeating Howe, but I guess this thread means it doesn't.

Funny I never spend this much thought.

I kept it, but I agree with others that it really stinks that it's only a tier 2 weapon. I think it should either be upgradable, or require a high level to use it. I mean, it's supposed to be a valuable relic. And I play on the 360, so no chance of a mod for me. *sigh*

And this sword was supposedly the same one that Teyrna Elethea used while fighting alongside Calenhad the Silver Knight? Dang, clearly ancient family swords don't age well...

Sentimental reasons - that and using it to decapitate Arl Howe - whee.

Or you can let Dog rip him to pieces. Far more satisfying.

Doesn't need to be upgraded... if it were some badass weapon, it would probably have been carried into battle by your older brother, rather than left sitting in a chest collecting dust. It's not about it being a legendary weapon, it's about it being a family heirloom.
Kept it for roleplaying sentiment.
Not really - not until he inherited it from the teryn. The teryn, on the other hand, likely would have taken it into battle.

I think it looks cooler than a lot of other swords, so yeah I've been keeping it... That and it has great sentimental value. =P

I felt a little cheated when I realized the borrowed longsword that Duncan gives your cousin in the Alienage origin is much much better than the Heirloom sword. Duncan must have some connections, it's too bad he didn't pass on the name of his enchanter before he died.
