well i loved the chapter and that smack down Jack put on Gorn. hate having to make such a big decision like that, theres no win win situation and i cant really decided whats the right choice but i think i made an acceptable call with my vote hopefully
Thanks! I was really happy with that scene. Its almost the first scene I had planned for the chapter, so it really helped shape what happened in the main plot.
Sorry for not posting for a few days. Been offline and unable to get to a keyboard. Hopefully I'll be back and about more regularly tomorrow.
RE: The choice. This is why I never stated which was Paragon and which was Renegade. There is no real moral high ground here. Its one of my most difficult choices to date, alongside Omega, TIM and Thane's cure. Hopefully not the last.
Fainmaca Out.

In other news, I'd like to put together a cover image to upload on FF.net for this story and my others. Anybody here good with image editing software?

Also, the vote for Chapter 46 of ITU is still open. If you haven't cast your vote, there's still time!

on chapter 3 of resistance, loving it so far. kinda gets me abit motivated to try writing out some ideas myself
Glad you like it!
I always picture Resistance in a comic format, a kind of tie-in to the ITU game-story. Its been fun to write, and its good to occasionally take a break from Shepard's story.
Had an unexpected work trip that's put me behind schedule with the newest chapters, but I'll try to get working on them ASAP.

Someone at Bioware must be reading my stuff! there are far too many coincidences! I only hope that, on the million to one chance they decide to take another stab at doing ME3, they actually take some pointers from this.

if they read anywhere near the bulk of your story theyre gonna wish you had been hired on as a writer
Edit: i was just playing through the citadel side quest after the cerberus attack and i realized the one for Zaeed reminded me of Thanes rescue mission. those recorded cerberus operatives conversation with that volus was similar to the one that crazy scientist had in her office about going behind TIM's back and her cell going rogue

That was a very fun mission to write. i enjoyed diverting away from the normal 'pew pew pew' mission type for a while, and I got the CSI 'Horatio sunglasses' moment as well (YEAAAAAAAHHHHH).
Never thought about the similarity between that and Zaeed's mission, though. I guess you're right. I'm still stinging over writing the battle for Tuchanka and then THE VERY NEXT DAY seeing that 'Against All Odds' trailer come out. I still hold firm to the thought that my All-Thresher is better than Kalros. Its bigger, for one thing.

You don't know the half of it. I reckon once the consequences of this choice are made clear, there will be a few people wanting to save-reload.

Regret my vote? No. Feel sadden by what happen very!
This was the shortest chapter you have written, but it is by far the most emotional. I had a feeling things would turn out that way but i didn't think i would actually have this kinds of emotional response to it. this was a very well done chapter Fainmaca and I look forward to more.

The short length was entirely intentional. If I'd padded the chapter out with other stuff it would have been an insult to Etarn.

Now, as you've probably seen me state many times on these boards, I have not bought the DLC, nor do I intend to. The mess that was the central plot of ME3 is something I do not believe can be fixed by small packets of data released every couple of months, and because of this and other cut-throat practices I am seeing within the EA domain, I cannot condone this present version of the game. That said, I have watched the DLC on youtube to form some kind of opinion of the story told within. Some may claim that my butthurt over the main game colours my thoughts, while others may think that I am not harsh enough. It doesn't concern me. Judge them as you will.
Next, HEAVY SPOILERS TO FOLLOW. You have been warned.
So, my thoughts: Not bad, but not good either.
1st off: the Soundtrack. The Music was often spot-on. The fast-paced bits got the heart pumping, the slow bits were good and creepy. The music often made the scene. However, at times it did feel very recycled, with bits of msuic I am sure have been used elsewhere in the series. Forgivable for an optional DLC segment, and after seeing it in the main game so much, not that surprising.
Next, the atmosphere. I think this was really well done, for the most part. The aura of mystery and trepidation was really good. That said, there were times where character dialogue intruded on the sensation, trying to emphasise the tension but ultimately detracting from it. In all, this was the best facet of the DLC. when they really try, Bioware can produce a very genuine feel to a scene. It often made me think of the mystery of Overlord, or even the scene on Lessus, when you were in the dark looking around, before they wheeled out those Banshee things and ruined the suspense.
The overall look of the DLC and the level layout was very well done. I loved the section underwater. But then again, seeing as diving and the ocean are keen interests of mine, I am kind of a sucker for that kind of thing. I also liked the part where the squad moves through that facility on the cliff as it falls to pieces around them. Very dynamically designed.
The dialogue is an improvement over the core game, slightly. It certainly feels like Shepard has more control over what they say, but not as totally as in ME1 and 2. The Investigate branch is still missing.
There is also a complete lack of meaningful choice in this storyline, meaning that it feels inconsequential. A sensation further hammered home by the fact that all we get out of the storyline is a few more War Assets. Bioware, you need to learn that this War Asset system does not give us a sense of accomplishment. We play games to feel like we're achieveing something. Even in games where you do 'normal' tasks like sports or driving or, hell, bass fishing, you do them with a feeling of achievement. The satisfaction of a game showing you the fish you just landed, the roaring crowds chanting along to your guitar solo or the noticeable difference you've made by saving the Galaxy from the Sith/become the Dark Lord Reborn, these are outcomes that keep us playing. Statistics stashed away at the back of the ship are not. Especially when we already know how much of a difference these numbers will make at the end.
VA work needs no explanation. Say what you will about Bioware's business practices, they have hired some good actors for the VA.
Now, onto the final, crunchy bit- the story. I feel that, while there are some good ideas behind it, the story is ultimately poor. For one thing, it deals with a very important part of ME3- the main antagonist and its/their origins, in such a plot-critical way that it really should have been integrated into the main game, if it was a part of the plan all along. This leads me to believe that it was not a part of the plan, and that Bioware are actually making it up as they go along. Either that or they really are engaging in truly reprehensible business practices to boost sales.
As for the plot itself, it feels like its trying too many contortionist tricks to fit in with established canon. For one thing, the entire Leviathan/Batarian/Reaper issue is retconned quite heavily to suit the plots of both main game and DLC. For another, it jumps through too many hoops to accomodate the synthetics/organics conflict ideas introduced by ME3's ending. It also raises a number of questions that, for me, anyway, are quite troubling.
1. If the Leviathans are able to control Reapers, or even at least stun them to leave them open for a killing blow, then how was almost their entire race wiped out after the Starbrat turned on them? each cycle makes one 'true' Reaper (I.E. Sovereign class). This is made clear by the dialogue. So the starbrat betrayed his creators (ironic, huh?) melted a bunch down into the first Reaper, then managed to go 50,000 years with this single true Reaper and harvest another cycle, and all the while the survivors (AT LEAST the 3 we see in the DLC, more hinted at) went into hiding and failed to wipe out this threat. This means that they are either weak or stupid, and therefore not really of any use to our war effort.
2. In the course of the DLC, we make use of technology that prevents indoctrination. That's right, you heard me. We have a countermeasure to indoctrination. That is a huge piece of technology right there. No mention of how we have it. If we had that before now, wouldn't people like Cerberus and the Alliance be using it, therefore not allowing the Reapers pawns like TIM or Kenson? If it was a recent development, then why wasn't it dealt with in-game? This is the kind of edge against the Reapers that should have had a mission tied to its acquisition. The Reapers would certainly want to stop its development. Wouldn't that have been a better DLC? Hell, its the kind of plot point that should have been a focal point of the game.
P.S. Bryson says that telepathy doesn't exist, but then immediately says that the Rachni Queen and the Leviathan have a bilogical method for contacting others wirelessly. Last time I checked, that was almost the definition of telepathy.
3. The Reapers seem to have been downgraded again. In ME1 and 2, it seemed to show us that anything older than the Protheans was purged from the Galaxy methodically and very, very thoroughly.. I can think of a reason for that: It allows the next cycle to attribute the previous cycle with the development of the Mass Relays and so on. It means that a repeating cycle of destruction is not visible in any of the eveidence the current cycle gets a hold of. Of course, things like the plant-based Thorian get missed, but these are exceptions to the rule, and frankly a plant could be passed over as unimportant, if the Reapers were unaware of its sentience. now, in the DLC, it seems as though the Reapers managed to miss a force of surviving enemies that have existed in every cycle ever. Bioware are very close to the point of making the bad guys go full retard.
4. The Rachni revelation makes no sense. The Leviathans subjugated them to make an army to fight the reapers when they arrive, but then throw them away against the other races? They essentially threw away at least a quarter of the galaxy's combat potential right there. Until the Krogan joined the war, the Asari and Salarians were going to lose. That's power, right there. Power that was wasted with that war.
So, in all, the DLC hardly matches up to previous bioware standards. Sure, its more polished on the surface, but its inner workings are not up to standard.
Sorry Bioware. 5/10. I won't be buying. I'll stick to my own version of what Leviathan was all about.

loved chapter 48 so far; jack comforting shep, the crew bout to tear balik anew one and everybody getting all sentimental then grunt does something funny. made me feel abit better about seeing etarn go but still gonna miss em.
digging the cover art, i can imagine her asking shep if hes has a plane to stop that reaper or should she just yank it out the sky like the force unleashed lol.
now on to the dlc, i think its abit unfair for me to judge leviathan on the basis i just read about another leviathan getting curbstomped in another ME universe you guys might have heard of...
anyways ill try not to be bias but to be fair their was no real conclusion or final confrontation really. you fight some reapers who youve seen and faced before in greater numbers go down to chat up the leviathans and thats it, oh and the mindscrew a brute and a reaper. you fight across the galaxy yet again to have a chat and convince someone to let you win...again.
i dont play ME to talk the monster to death, i play to kick some final boss ass THEN talk them to death when ive won. you know how many people wouldve been pissed in ME1 if after you convice saren to shoot himself you just instantly opened the citadel arms and that was it...well thats what were getting now watered down final bosses into cutscene fights.
and i dont like that theyre throwing the rachni around like its hot potato, first they were just extremely pissed we invaded their territory then sovereign might have sent them cause he was impatient, and now the leviathans were just being dicks and threw them at us just because...
....im sorry i dont know what came over me or where that long rant came from. weird. in closing 46 & 47 chapter is worth more than the whole leviathan dlc and carries more weight for its universe then the other.
