Gamespot was running a promotion for this yesterday. Sign up on Gamespot and get a free key.

Just curious if anybody else got in? I knew nothing about it and watched some videos. It seems rather unique for a MMO.

Is this an MMO or singleplayer RPG?

It's an MMO.

I don't really understand the story - something to do with the Illuminati.

MMO. You pick a secret society and fight for them. Templars, Illuminati and Dragon. Each are secretly fighting for control of this world.

It's a modern day MMO. Very unique. But what is cool is you can "time travel" too. As you'll see in that link. It's a rather long demonstration but should give you a idea of how it is. I thought it was cool towards the end they went into a dungeon by time traveling to a important event in history. The boss fight seemed kinda cool too.

I think the setting is really what is cool. Basically you're mostly in the modern setting. Going to hubs like New York, Transylvania, etc. But they have sequences where you see important stuff in history.

Their skill tree and crafting system looks very complex. Don't see this game being very accessible. Might end up like EVE where it was overly complex where it didn't need to be?

And Templars and "Dragons" or was it Triads?

Well the writer from Dreamfall and The Longest Journey is on board.

Naughty we're choosing Illuminati right!

That's what I was thinking, but Seoul also looks like a fun place to start. Having spent some time in Seoul and Tokyo, I can say the environments look very well done.

I think the beta is focused and you're limited to only one hub and Templars for now.

Just played some, game has great atmosphere and world is very detailed.
But classic Funcom disaster, there is no "Social pane" i add my friend but where is the list? party chat is buggy too.
And after DC ing or logging out, you cannot simply go back to game. It gives an error and puts your char into Dragons O_o (Kinda solved by ourselves tough just log out when you are at character screen and log in back. Voila you are game :))

Game looks promising but GW2 is mcuh more solid than this. And if i get it right FC thinking to release game at 19 June... I hope it was just a rumor.

It's pretty terrible. Premise is very unique and I love the setting but I've run into more bugs than I've ever seen in a "open" beta for a MMO. Game is less than a month from release too.

If I'm going to waste time in a MMO, it's going to be something way more polished like SWTOR, WoW or just wait for GW2.

Some problems I ran into:

-Actually can't play anymore because when I load my character up on the server, client crashes. Apparently a big problem

-My character disappeared. I couldn't see him anymore, one reason I had to reload(now I can't get into server because of crashes)

-My character apparently had a gender change because when I loaded a new area, he turned into a female for a short while...

-Character models are bugged to hell, I equipped a flamethrower for a quest and it would never go away, even replacing it with my default weapon

-My character's hair/eye/tone all changed. I went from a brown haired, handsome young lad to a blonde asian...?

-Performance in the game is awful. My rig is overkill for this game and I constantly lag...especially from all the HDD caching loading new areas...

All this happened within 1 hour of playing the game lol. I've always heard horror stories about this dev...now I see why.

This is bad coinsidering its a month from release. Heck I thought GW2 needed 3 months more work after the BWE.

I really enjoy this too. The entire setting is very unique. The first hub is a zombie apocalypse zone. It's awesome. All the survivors are in a barricade zone. It's unfortunate the game is so buggy. I understand a beta is going to be buggy but when you're less than a month from release and this buggy for a MMO...not a good sign.

They're not giving keys out in the gamespot link I gave anymore? I can't tell because it just shows the key they already gave me. If they're still giving them out, all you have to do is sign up for Gamespot in that link and they give you a key.

Honestly, you're not missing much. It's pretty buggy but some things about it are cool. I like how the questing has a lot of mystery behind it. They don't hold your hand ALL the time. So sometimes you have to discover things yourself like getting a door keycode or tracking down a suicide victim. I thought that quest was kinda cool.

Very much so. I really like that.

Character Design on the other hand was much weaker than I expected. They said there would be many more options on release, but it felt lacking. A 'real world' game should feature more variety. In particular almost everyone in the world looks like completely average, yet fit people in their twenties.

That said, once you get them in the world and doing thing, you don't notice it as much. And the stat/ability part of character building is pretty interesting. And I do like the quest structure.

But the game really needs to delay release for a few more months if they ever want to get past their reputation for buggy releases.

The best thing about the game is the setting, atmosphere and quests that actually are riddled with real puzzles. They make you think. What is also cool is you can press B and it opens a browser in the game to solve some puzzles. Directs you straight to google lol.

I can't get into the game though because the performance is absolutely awful and I've never seen a open beta for a MMO this buggy. My PC shouldn't chug as the HDD is caching at every corner.

They need to delay the game because I think it can be good.

For an MMO?

I was quite impressed with the quality of character design and generally the high quality of all the assets, even with tessellation disabled.

I haven't played GW2, but compared to TOR and WoW, the character models look excellent.

Did you try disabling tessellation? Once I did that, the frame rate was greatly improved.

I played quite a few hours and didn't encounter many bugs. One quest seemed to be bugged, the dialogue options to speak with NPCs was a bit buggy and if you switch back and forth between first person view and third person view, sometimes your character mesh becomes invisible. Once or twice I got a "disconnected from server" error. Other than that it was rather smooth.

It took a long time to figure out the crafting, but once I did I was very impressed with the system.

To clarify, when I say 'weaker' I mean overall options.

TryAPB Or EVE for some truly spectacular creators. Star Trek Online even has a more robust creator. Conan which is their own game had more options and that came out years ago. (To be fair, TSW handles clothing much better than Conan)

And that's not comparing them to more recent releases like Tera that has things like moving hair. TOR also aimed too low on their character creation. Even when compared to its predecessor, SWG.

If you're doing a game set on earth, it really throws it off if everyone looks roughly the same age, body weight, height and attractiveness level. I knew characters wouldn't look as good as they do in the TSW cgi movies, but I was expecting far more options in the creator.
