Wrote this article for fun, it may be a little racist but its really just for fun. I compare the mass effect alien races to actual human races, ethnicities etc.

Would love to hear what you guys think.

I kinda worry for where this thread is headed. That said, I think the only races who were directly inspired by human cultures were the Quarians (Roma/Gypsies), Krogan (any proud warrior race guys, perhaps Spartans) and unfortunately, arguably the Volus (bad Jewish stereotypes).

I think I recall hearing from a dev resource that the Turians were inspired by Russians or general Eastern Europeans, and the Salarians were meant to have a "British" expression.

Turians are clearly "space Romans". Even the species name gives its away: "Centurion" - "Turian". Hmmm ? ^^

Asari feel a lot like Asians - Japanese to be precise. Also "tentacle porn" included ... o.O

I'm glad not all species feel like a space counterpart of a tiny portion of mankind.

"Japanese" was definitely my first pick when it came to the Turians. Specifically, the samurai-era of Japan.

Batarians? I've always got the North Korean vibe from them. The Hegemony's a very isolationist empire after all. No embassy at the Citadel. Keeps a close eye on its citizens. Spews propaganda left and right. Parallels can be drawn with the Hermit Kingdom (aka North Korea), imho.

Well basically: none. They are aliens...like... from another world... other planet, other elements..We can try to make a parallel but they are out of our homeworld species...

Maybe "fruits de mer"? I heard you guys love that stuff. And Hanar do look like a "fruit de mer", so to speak.

And no, Hanar don't feel like French, not a bit. Actually, none of the species in the game feel "French". I'm kinda glad there is no "German" group in there 'though Cerberus feels a bit like that. -:bandit:

Yeah, many of us like seafood, but I don't think we eat jellyfish!

There's doctor Chloé Michel and her weird French accent but that's pretty much it.

Well I've noticed that we tend to say "thanks", "good day", etc. quite a lot compared to others. Maybe too much actually. In Canada I remeber getting told by a waiter "you know, this is my job, no need to constantly say thanks".

We are easily upset.

Oh yes, you're right, the habit to say "thanks" and "hello" makes me forget how often I say it ^^

Yep that's the only common ground I see with the Hanar :pinched:
Furthermore, Hanar are really religious, and french people.....well, I've yet to meet a faithful french

Turians are definitely Roman. Their military doctrine and their names heavily imply that.

Hanar being French? That is weird.

That's what I was about to say. 1930's-40's Germany = Cerberus. Has a large number of "believers in the cause" so to say but also has a large number of people that disagree with them/hate them. Cerberus/Germany also have a large number of defectors after things got too...drastic?

I have somewhat recent German ancestry so I can relate to this.

I though Michel was Swiss? Could of sworn she said something about Geneva?

Her brother lives there, but I'm pretty sure she was meant to be French. Could be wrong though.
