On my first playthrough I named him Hafter and subsequent playthroughs I named him Rabbit. Both shoutouts to The Calling

I like this, I see what angle you're coming from, it makes sense (not that I'm into perpetuating corporate subliminal messaging on the self or anything).Mithrildream wrote...
He seemed like a beer drinking dog, so I named him Budweiser.
Mine is Hewie. Anyone remember Haunting Ground/Demento? PS2? Odd game (but the main character alone is enough of a reason to get it) - you form a very close bond with your dog, and not many dogs like me, so for me this is the only one.
It was either going to be some kind of beer (could have been any and that one popped in my head first) or Serbarksalot. I could not figure out why he barks sooo much so I think he just wants a beer and I can just picture him mooching beer off all the guards in Highever and going in and lapping beer from mugs after they pass out.

I tend to name mine "Kaelim"
I have absolutely no idea why. I was staring blankly at the "Name your dog" screen and it was the best one I could come up with. That said, my female city elf affectionately named her dog "Nelaros", after the handsome elven groom who suffered a sudden and unfortunate case of sword to the face and died.
I actually rather like the dog. If it wasn't for how some party members are good to bring for dialogue/gaining influence, I'd probably have him as a permanent member. There's also something utterly delightful about taking Overwhelm to your enemies for once - I it keeps giving me this highly vengeful glee, and makes me wish I brought him along more often.

I had considered going with Schmooples, but Leliana took offense to that.

My first Dog was named Argos (Ulysses' dog). Later ones were named Buck (from Call of the Wild) and Ein (from Cowboy Bebop).
It's not that I don't like Dog, he's just not as good as the other companions. It's a shame PC users can't give him the Warrior talents the way console players can.

Rood is my dog. In one part, he's named after the Hound of Shadow in the Malazan Book of the Fallen series, and in the other part, it exemplifies his personality well

I named mine Lycos...
I don't know if the search engine was used somewhere, but we had a commercial around here with a dog searching the infos.
It stuck around until now, and it's the only name that comes to mind at any given time for a dog.

I play with the dog a lot and there actually is dialouge. For example, the Dwarf hates the dog and in return the dog whines sometimes. Wynn, on the other hand, enjoys the dog and talks to him nicely. Pretty sure the Golem hates the dog too.

Bruce! How ya doin' Bruce?! I'm fine Bruce! Thas' Wonderful Bruce!
Because the thought of that enormous dog sitting around drinking beer and being Australian with his identically named friends greatly appeals.
Also Canavaris. The scientific name for Elfroot, once, because I was playing an elven alchemist at the time and figured that's the sort of name he would pick. Wish the game would tell you the proper name for Deathroot, because that fits a wardog better, but hey.

Called my first dog 'George', and for my next character I think I will go with 'Winston'.
Keep it nice and British.

Paragon for my Dwarven Noble
Barkspawn for my Mage... Had to name one of them Barkspawn. It's like DAO law.
I like going with class specializations for the names as well... Beserker, Reaver, Champion, Assassin all work.
I considered Dogmeat... Would have if you could get some sort of canine meat or if a companion had mentioned a society that eats dogs.
Also- pulling from Greek, Roman, and other mythologies or fantasy settings works well. Sirius (Harry Potter anyone?), Remus, Romulus, Hercules... Long list to pull from.

I also noticed not a lot of love for the dog. Why ? Mines a beast. I play on nightmare with a human rogue. His stun spell is great and I always use domination on the most dangerous enemies. Plus, leveling him couldn't be easier, I dump all his points in Const. and Strength.
The greatest tactic for Muttley:
Nearest Enemy Mage -> Overpower.
Watch him charge to the back of the pack and eat a mage's face in. It's hilarious.
As for names, so far I've gone with:
Phar and Fiy. If I'm going to be commanding a wardog in combat, I'm going to need short names that I can yell out loud, really loud. They're pratical.
