People in Mass Effect seem pretty chill overall.

You know what? Quarians offend me, how do I know they're not making faces under there? I sorry but this discussion can be fixed... MUTE!
On the PC, you can not mute other players, only yourself. There have been multiple times where I have wished to be able to mute others. (Although it is only a small percentage, it is a VERY vocal percentage.)
Ummmm. not true on PC. Go to options/sound/voice mode and /Force Voice Chat Audio
For the first choose No Voice, and for the second choose Off. No audio chat from you or anyone else - just the sounds of the game.
It's my default. I'm frankly afraid of what I'll hear if I were to listen in to the conversations going on in a random game. Better to fill in the blanks in my own head.
Yes, but conversation with team mates is a valuable part of the game, especially on Gold. The only thing I have ever been jelous of regarding XBox is the ability to selectively mute other players mid-game.

1. Turn mic on, mute incoming sounds.
2. Turn mic on, play your favorite music/soundboard/pr0n (>_>)/movie. LOUDLY. ???. Profit.

no... they are not idiots... this is a video game... not a board meeting... it's a mean to have some fun, relax and blow off some steam...
just wondering here, what are your qualifications to be the intelligence and moral police?
the world needs idiots... if the whole world would be smart, we would all be screwed... someone needs to cut my lawn and make my burger... the world cannot consist of only smart people because things that require dumb people doing them would never get done... when someone is mean to me, I know that I have much better friends/family, girlfriend, education, job, apartment, car, success, etc... and they have a microphone... deal with it... the world doesn't have a mute option...

Hahahaha no. If someone's method of "having fun" is stopping other people from having fun by being offensive (and for the record, goofing off and making fart noises, which I could very easily have coped with, was NOT the problem here, the person made very specific, very hurtful remarks that I'm not allowed to post in this forum) then it's not acceptable.
The world doesn't need idiots, it just happens to have a lot of them. Wouldn't it be nice if they weren't stuck in idiothood for their entire lives?

I totally think the world NEEDS idiots... like I said... if everyone is smart, who will cut my lawn and cook my burger? I'm not doing it... the guy with a PhD is not doing it either... the guy who didn't graduate HS is though...

I played a game where no one talked except for one guy. And by "talked", I really mean "farted constantly into his mic and laughed as if it was the funniest thing''.
I can't stop laughing.
I don't know why.

Without going on a roundabout story, I too play on the PC platform and thankfully I have not come across any unruly behaved players. This may largely be due to the fact that my timezone is very much different from US/Canada one. That aside, may I suggest having at least one or two other semi-consistent or consistent friends to play with and to host your games. This is so that you have loosely say that it is 'your' lobby and with one or two other you have enough kick power to remove any unruly players.
This may not be always the case and often times you may just have to PuG (Pick up Group) it. When PuGing, there is little that can be done regarding the risks involved. Either turn down the in game volume and crank up music or just leave. Between sanity of mind and a couple of credits, I believe the better choice would be sanity of mind.

And yes, the original enquiry was simply to find out if there was some way of reporting disgusting behaviour and/or blocking certain players. I've got a pen and paper next to my computer now and I'll just jot down any names of players who I don't want to play with and avoid them in the future. Also as I said, this has only happened ONCE in months of playing, so it's not as though I'm feeling persecuted and considering the things I've heard about from other online games I think ME3 players should be lauded for their lack of idiocy.
And to Exs11 - I've done all those jobs in my time, and I have a post graduate degree. You don't have to be an idiot to do them, or even to WANT to do them. Sometimes need dictates.

This is, afterall, just a game and life is way too short to waste it having to put up with numpties like that. Still, ME3 MP is populated by very decent folk overall. Yay for us!

so far i have only had one really bad experience. it was two nights ago. dude was in England and he was hosting. the rest of us were having terrible terrible lag. 3 people quit..not at once..but one after the other...with people joining mid wave. Dude was playing an infiltrator and outscoring us like it was going out of style. He was the only one able to revive people...cuz if the others were like me...everytime we hit revive..there was a long pause like it didnt go through so you hit it again...a second later it shows you start and stop the revive. by the time you start again you are being swarmed and killed. in the 9th round dude went down first....one guy tried to revive him but got downed. the 3rd guy got downed on the other side of the map. I went to revive dude...by this time 2 atlas' and untold number of troopers were nearby. As soon as i hit revive i went down. i didnt even try to medgel cuz no once was trying to. Dude hopped on the mic and started calling everyone pathetic and how he didnt need us on HIS team and how he was going to beat us up in real life. So i hopped on my mic and called him the C-word cuz that was how he was acting. he then went on bout my N7 ranking and X weapons. i think he was sour...and a poor sport. i wish i would have took down his gamertag.
This is why i dont use a mic unless it is a private party. it why i mute everyone else. If i wasnt playing on gold i wouldnt have even heard a thing he said.
im in the uk and a garrentee you wont lag out on my hosted games i have a T1 GB internet connection...
ive come accross quite a few douches but not on me3 only on call of duty, when ever i feel the need to jump in for a round on call of duty i disable my mic so i cant hear them.
also had alot of douches on red dead redemption online in the end we just started making partys and only playing with freinds
@ the op i do feel for you at least on xbox i can set privicy so only freinds can comunicate with me.
