I'm playing an engineer for the first time ever in the series, starting at level 1 (am about level 15ish by now), and I've been trying to go drone and turret heavy for my skills since they just seem completely different than using the other powers, which are too similar to an adepts (my normal class choice).
My question is this: If I have the cryo ammo upgrade and the flamethrower upgrade on my turret, will it be able to freeze and then fry people for a tech combo all by itself, or does the flamethrower upgrade change the way that it fires entirely and makes it a worthless investment to have cryo ammo as well?
I've heard that with the drone the shock and chain lightning, or shock and rocket, upgrades are worthless together since it will only do chain lightning on 6th level or run from enemies and fire rockets instead of zapping people. I'm wondering if it's pretty much the same with the turret only using one with and never procing the other.
Anyone with any ideas on what upgrades synergize well with each other, for the drone or for the turret or for both playing off of eachother, please list them and WHY they are good together. Thank you.

Hm...I'm sure others will know their stuff more but I completed an Engineer run maxing out the turret and combat drone. I specced the turret for cryo so it could potentially freeze enemies, and specced the combat drone for rocket. Watch the enemies shatter! That worked pretty well I think for most of my insanity playthrough, though I did import a Shepard so started on something like level 31 or 32.
