Send the armies home, Ser Cauthrien could just solo the Archdemon.  I just fought Ser Cauthrien using v 1.01 (now I will patch)--for the fifth time.  It is shameful to admit it, but, I, I--I Force Fielded Alistair!  Not like it mattered.  She bashed him a few times and then turned to Zevran and almost butchered him multiple times before Alistair broke free.  In the end of the battle I was forced to make my mage Force Field herself because my shock spells aggravated Ser Clauthrien.  If I hadn't managed to neutralize her entire team in the very beginning the battle would have been impossible, as it is I only managed by having Alistair and Zevran chug greater health potions with great regularity, and normal and lesser ones as well.  Oh, and resurrecting Zevran twice.  It's not often a battle runs long enough that you can use Force Field (x3), Crushing Prison (x3), and resurrection (x2) multiple times.

The first couple times I died because I tried to Blizzard them in the open room, which doesn't work so well when you have, what, ten arches hitting you with shattershot simultaneously.  We finally ran back in the hallway and I cast Blizzard from inside the hallway behind a wall, Force Fielded Ser Clauthrien in the doorway, then cast Tempest.  Later when the Blizzard ran off I dropped an Inferno and that killed all but three archers.  If they had not been told apparently to stand still like idiots and gotten missed by the first AoE spells, well, I guess they all would have run into my Blizzard and died.  So maybe that was a good plan.

Is this battle this hard for everyone?  It is by far the hardest battle I've had, including the High Dragon and Flemeth.  I know I didn't have a good party setup--if I'd known what I was getting into I would have left Leliana and brought Morrigan, who I have set up with more curses, while my mage does almost exclusively elemental damage.  But Ser Cauthrien was doing 80-180 damage a hit.  :crying:

This battle is the common consensus most difficult in the game. I felt that way even after I managed to lure her out and fight her without the guards and archers. I have a feeling bioware wanted you to become imprisoned and not win this one

Cauthrien was the chosen wielder of the Plot Device, an artifact that bestows incredible power on it's owner.

However she lost it shortly after you were imprisoned. Sad, really.

More likely Anora noticed said Plot Device as she was leaving and said the following: I am your queen, give me that NOW! or some such thing.

I beat her at my first attempt with no casualties. When I discovered what I had done, I reloaded and surrendered.

Winning that battle maybe an ego boost, but it is epic opportunity fail when it comes to IMO the most awesome game content.

Ser Cauthrien owns a Vorpal Sword +10 and Anora is a Githyanki, it explains everything.

For my character surrender was not an option. You're fighting the Blight, almost the last of the Gray Wardens, you know Loghain is a traitor, so do you surrender to his lieutenant? No! At least not my mage. Maybe my rogue character will because he will figure with Zevran or Leliana along escaping custody should be a cinch.

Really?  Can you say some of what it is without spoiling the entire thing?  This is my first playthrough and I'm trying to avoid reading about as much of the later plot as I can.

Maybe I will just leave her dead and leave that part for my second playthrough so that I'll have something different to look forward to.

I'm shocked that anyone would have an easy time with this battle the 1st time. I croaked the 1st time because the archers made my caster a pin cushion. The 2nd time I tried to run out of the room but couldn't coordinate my team fast enough and got slaughtered. After about the 8th time I surrendered figuring that's what was expected of me but I didn't enjoy doing so.

... or you could have just accepted defeat and waited a couple of seconds to see that the game didn't force you to reload a savegame and instead took your character to jail anyway.

My DW warrior had 90 defense and 34 armor.  Sunder Arms as administered by Ser Cautheon did 220 damage.  Consistently.  The only way I could win that fight on nightmare was bringing her and her two adds into Anora's room.  And even then, with CoC, stone fist, and two spirit healers, my DW warrior still had to use about 6 healing pots.

Meanwhile, with the same exact group I killed the high dragon on nightmare with 2 healing pots.  So yes, Ser Cauthrien could solo the high dragon.  Easily.  She could solo every other boss in the game.  In fact, I'm of the opinion that she could solo the high dragon, Flemeth and Galaxkang at the same time.

Like I said in another thread.  The sequel to this game is going to be me recruiting Sandal and Ser Cauthrien and letting them defeat the seventh blight for me.  Or Orleis.  Or whoever the hell I'm fighting.  Doesn't really matter.  They'll kill all of them.  I think my human noble is going to send Ser Cauthrien to conquer the Qunari.  By herself.  Sandal is going to conquer Orleis.  By himself.  And Zevran already loves me so he'll hand over Antiva.

I lured them into the hallway and body blocked them with my tank.

From there it was rather easy to keep one guy alive while your party goes to town on your would be killers.

if you surrender you get imprisoned and they only take in alistair and you and the two others are going back to the Arl's house to say you were captured so help is gonna come for you ...

hint : dialogues are gonna be funny if you bluff ...

in one of my earlier playthroughs Morrigan came to the rescue at the Arl's house announcing to everyone she gave me a ring and knew exactly where I was because of it.

Then I broke out myself since I was a rogue and allistair was a tank.  I felt really bad.  She seemed ready to rescue me and prove once and for all that she didn't give me a ring because she loves me but purely because it was practical.  Sorry, Morigan.

The wisest course of action is to surrender first, and then talk her down before the Landsmeet. She's too skilled, and thus valuable, to be slain. She could probably retake half of Denerim on her own in the final battle.

Yes, and bandits in Denerim and bounty hunters outside Orzimmar are more powerful than abominations and werewolves.

It's a game, and I'm comfortable with that.

By the end of the game the amount of defense I could stack on Alistair was so rediculous that archers couldn't hit him and even Ser Cauthrien missed half the time.

I bet her bedroom is full of posters of Loghain. Imagine having sex while a five foot tall image of his face glowered at you disapprovingly.

Steal his woman and then kill him at the landsmeet after demanding that he fight your dog.

Good times.

Pfft.  Blindfolds ftw.

...though come to think of it, I'd tie her down first.

I would be more afraid of the deadly giant sword leaning against the bedpost... one wrong move, or position.. and whack!!!!!

You knew Ser Cauthrien was going to be trouble from the first time you see her... the way she jerks her arm from Loghain's hand. The look she gave him made him wet his trousers.

She could probably have loving with Sten and not need the red hot pry bar.

I have to agree, Sandal and Ser Cauthrien are clearly all that is needed to win just about any war. I suggest that we send them to Par Volen ahead of the armies. :wizard:
