Probably the price of being a L2 Biotic. Don't forget he's one of a few stable L2s and the L2 amps, while more powerful than the L3s, are considered unsafe. They either are Asari amps, or they are the first generation of amps engineered from Asari amps. While Kaiden can use them, they probably cause physical damage whenever he uses his biotics (Similar to Jack if you didn't upgrade her amp in ME2).

well when you play Mass Effect 3 the discussions between Shepard and Kaiden, and Shepard and Garrus they make it seem like Vilmire was 10 years ago.

Perhaps better story writing of ME3 could have made the game 10 years advanced in the future, than just 2 years.

Then again I think it was stupid for them to start ME3 with Shepard being under house arrest from the Aliance.

In ME universe, when men get older they become more......... old, women on the other hand just turn more sexy when they grow older. Evidence? Just look at Liara, Jack, Tali (Her body from ME1 to 2) and Ash (arguably)

The better question is, why 2 years and a death between ME1 and 2 didnt change anything about Shep but FemShep's breast size.
