My last two playthoughs have been Dwarves and I get a good feeling out of them. Is that true of other races etc.?
Does DAO have a good feeling?

Yes, I think so. Every origin story provides a different backdrop to the character you take through the game, and I think they all create a good atmosphere. Though my favorite origins still are the dwarven ones.

They all play pretty well and each origin has its advocates. The consensus seems to be that the mage and dalish elf origins are pretty short and the female city elf origin is better than the male city elf origin. There are people who have been quite vocal in disagreeing with the above. The Dalish origin has an extra tidbit later in the game, that no other origin gets and the mage can do things no other origin can.
I'm very fond of the female city elf origin and the dwarf commoner origin.

Human Noble lets you feel pretty righteous with themes of duty and just revenge. Similar to Aeducan in some ways.
A Human or Elven Mage is experiencing life free and on the loose, even if it isn't always a basket of roses.
City Elf is a Local Kid Done Good with one of the warmest possible "look backs" to the origin later in the game. Close to Dwarf Commoner with a much better home life.
Dalish Elf is, I think, the most obviously melancholy. You can play any of the origins as a bucket of angst, and you can play this one as a "woo hoo I'm free!" if you want, but it's very well-suited to the outsidey outsider who's outside. If you make peace with that over the game, or find a new place to call home, then this one can have a "good feeling" too.

I once played one of the Arcania Gothic games and finished the game feeling like a bucket of dreary had been slopped all over me. It seemed very dark and all the outcomes seemed colored with grey and melancholia.
Maybe I am just a sucker for positive outcomes and justice and considered moral choices, but even so I have to thank BioWare for not filling DAO with a double serving of depression and gloom.
And I just finished playing a human noble who marries Anora, thus freeing Alistair to remain a Warden. Feel quite good about that outcome.
