So, another article by Forbes here:  http://www.forbes.co...jekt-red-ceo/3/

Check out this excerpt from the article.  I think the CEO pretty much sums up why the majority of gamers were upset with the Mass Effect 3 ending.  Bioware, this is something that should have happened with the ending.  Please take this into consideration and know that I believe you will make us proud with the Extended Cut.

TWO ENTIRELY DIFFERENT STORYLINES IN THE SECOND CHAPTER.  Yes, this kind of consequence is possible if you give it your all.

Here is the excerpt:

Interviewer:

It’s a solid pitch. And, speaking of real consequences, my colleagues at Forbes have been dedicatedly following fan protests at the apparent removal of a number of classic RPG elements, such as inventory management and crafting, from more recent games. CD Projekt Red is often seen as the standard-bearer of a more purist PC RPG experience – what did you think about the very vocal fan reaction to the ending of Mass Effect 3?

CEO:

RPGs are games you invest a lot of your time into. They become part of your life for quite a while. During this time you highly identify yourself with the character you play, so if suddenly, after 100+ of hours and few instalments of the series you find out that whatever you did throughout this whole time, whatever choices you made, the end is the same, well, I think that disappointment is understandable. It clearly shows that gamers expect, that their choices in the RPGs they play are really meaningful – and that’s what both the Witcher and the Witcher 2 are about.
We actually went so far in Witcher 2 that, depending on the player’s choice in Chapter One there are two totally different versions of Chapter Two, two different locations and two different storylines. To see both, you have to play the game twice. On top of that the game has 16 different endings depending on gamers choices throughout the whole game. There are decisions and there the consequences and you see it from the beginning to the end of both Witchers.

Great article!  It's good to know that this CEO and myself see eye to eye.

Too bad the ceo didn't realize that in games where combat is essential you don't want to give your customers karpal tunnel syndrome. I tried a number of times to play the witcher but the combat was too horrific for me. I hear it's a great game other wise.

Projekt CD is doing things right.

Went from a no name company to a direct rival to bioware in 2 titles.

I actually greatly enjoyed the combat but each gamer is different in this regard. The sword clashing combat reminded me of the Prince of Persia classic version's combat which is what I loved ever since I played that game.

Artistic Integrity prevails and the CEO of Witcher Red Projekt can go stuff himself because as unfortunate as it is it does not change EAWare's opinion and that the CEO's opinion only highlights the Mass Flaw of ME3 that EAWare fail to acknowledge because they are too busy blowing hot wind into the faces of the community and forcing us to sniff it like Peter Griffin did with Meg in their car in the name of protecting themselves and failing to realise how terrible Mass Effect 3 really is hurrrrrrrrrrrhurrrrrrrrrrrhurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

LOLBYE.

I hope EA doesn't consider buying Projekt CD. That would be the last straw of straws. There would be no more straws to grasp after that.

Uh, that sounded more like a not-so-subtle promotion for Witcher/Witcher2 than an honest look at ME3's ending (excerpt only). Though I do agree with him, choices are extremely important in an RPG. The fact that bioware's folks specifically said prior to the release of the game that our choices would impact the ending, makes it that much worse that they didn't. Or at least, not to an appreciable extent.

Great response. Questions regarding competitors are always awkward.

He's absolutely right. I don't know if Witcher games are good RPG or not, but his analysis is correct.

It's not my intent to promote the Witcher even if that happens but I'm trying to drive the point across here and that is what gamers wanted in Mass Effect 3.  It's more feedback for Bioware.  It should open their eyes to what they should be doing.

A little, yes, but you also have to keep in mind that we talk about what we have experience with. I find it better than he makes an informed answer by using the games of his own company then trying to make an uninformed one by using the ones of other companies.

There would be necks. And more than one unemployed ex-KGB operator in Poland. Kickstarter, anyone?

Wait, the CEO of CD Projekt Red saying his company is better? STOP THE PRESSES!
Also, why is inventory management an essential part of rpgs? I've managed my inventory more in RE4 than any rpg I've ever played.

Well, I managed it far more in Mass Effect (with irony).

Having completed the Witcher 2, 3 times (1 of which were completed after the enhanced edition FREE upgrade <- take notice bioware), i can only agree with him.

If only those doctors wouldn't have such big sellouts and sold their awesome company to EA :(

CD Projekt better stay independent....

He doesn't need to pitch it to me and that's the way it should be with an RPG.  It should be inherently fantastic.

Does swearing because you have to break down the geth weapon you finally managed to get as a drop because you reached the abitrary limit of weapons and armor you can have count? In my opinion, ME2+3 does much better in terms of inventory than the first game did.

They aren't doctors. Not any more, at least. If you feel the need to flaunt a degree you don't use, it's because you know you're terribly incompetent and need to artificially inflate your credentials. Unless he's a practicing clinician or teaching at a med-school, for Ray to claim he is a doctor is about as disingenuous as it gets. But he wanted to get into video games, where that residency he did counts for jack.

Much as I love CD Projekt and the Witcher games.

Pot.

Kettle.

Black.

It's not like the Witcher 1 and 2 didn't both need an extended edition to truly fulfill their potential. Bioware is doing that, so everyone should go their merry way, right?
