but hide it from Flemeth instead of bringing it back to Grandma.

That's something to think about, Grandma Flemeth.

Flemeth: You children.... Get off my lawn.
Lead Boy: How about no?
Flemeth: Really? *cackles*
Lead Boy: What are you going to do about it?
Flemeth: *DRAGONFIRE*!!!!!

Well it turns out that Flemeth is the Maker. In DA3 she will appear to the PC as a young girl, explain that she created the Darkspawn to prevent the individual races from killing each other, then give the PC 3 options
1.Destroy the Darkspawn and forever rid Thedas of the Darkspawn, but also destroy the Dwarves and the Deep Roads
2.Control the Darkspawn and force them underground forever, but the PC will have to remain with them as an Archdemon
3.Merge with the Taint, where everyone becomes semi-darkspawn, but lives forever in peace and harmony, PC dies though

All options cut off access to the fade and magic.

Or she could just be a gas.

You're in love with this aren't you?  I've seen this post on many different threads.

Of course I've got my repeat posts too.  But man  . . . your repeats are cut n paste to the pixel

Actually this is the second or third time.

Haven't we had this discussion before?

Personally, I think Flemeth is Fen Harel, the trickster.....that moves through worlds, even the Fade. And set things in motion, not for any particularly reasons, but just to see what happens ith these little tiny puny humans, elves, dwarves etc...

Why would the dread wolf have an interest in preserving dragons?

If some dialogue in The Silent Grove is to be accepted as holding some truth (for matters of the DA-verse), that might speak to the interest of Fen'Harel.

**Comic book spoilers below**

With regard to dragons, Yavana states "In destroying what it does not understand, mankind  would destroy itself. The blood of dragons is the blood of the world."

Now, lore in the comic may not be canon. And that lore may or may not be incorporated into a future game (I don't recall anything that parallels Yavana's claim in either DA:O or DA2, but perhaps I may have overlooked it if it was there). But if there is some measure of validity to the statement, then that would be plenty of reason for an entity that can interact with the mortal realm to take note and thus desire to preserve the creatures. If the world is destroyed, the Dread Wolf would lose its playing field, as well as the worship and fear of its people.

All of that is circumstantial.Brushing aside the fact that flemeth was born a mortal woman, If flemeth is possesed by Fen'Harel, should we not have atleast one instance of her taking the form of her avatar, the wolf instead of the totally unrelated high dragon? Also Fen'harel sealed away the gods which contradicts flemeth's plan to bring them back.It should also be noted that Fen'harel has always been portrayed as male while flemeth has only ever been known to inhabit female bodies.

Do we know for a fact that Flemeth was born a mortal woman? Sure, the legends speak of her origins, but legends are often tinged with hyperbole, symbolism, and a whole lot of creative license.

Also, the wolf may be but a representation - maybe Fen'Harel preferred that form more than others. Does that mean it's the only form the deity can take? If intending to inspire fear or awe amidst the peoples of Thedas, wouldn't the dragon form serve that purpose just as well?

While it may seem that Flemeth wants to resurrect the gods or divine entities, do we really know that such is indeed her plan? Perhaps resurrection is only temporary - the intent might be to revive them long enough to leech away their powers.

As for Fen'Harel being portrayed as male, that may just be how the entity was perceived. Perhaps legends and lore defaulted to male pronouns and Fen'Harel was actually neither truly male or female. Mortals tend to put things that they don't understand into tidy boxes and affix labels to them in order to wrap their heads around grandeur.

Basically, Flemeth is mystery incarnate. When the Witch herself speaks in riddles, and employs obsfucation in most of her dialogue, how can we be certain about anything?

Fen'Harel is a trickster that likes to play tricks on people. I'm not saying that Flemeth is Fen'Harel, just saying that it could be a possibility.

In the old forum discussions of this, I have seen observations and arguments that Fen'Harel aka Flemeth just tricked both the Magisters of Tevinter and the elves that once lived in Arlathan. Specualtions are also that she is an old elven god, an old dragon aka Dumat - and that she even is the Maker herself.

All will become clearer, I hope...

In Dragon Age: Origins when the Grey Warden wakes up in Flemeth's hut they go outside to meet Alistair and Flemeth herself. Alistair is all depressed over Duncan's death and shocked at Logains betrayal. Flemeth notices this and says  "I am sorry for your Duncan, but your grief must come later... in the dark shadows before you take vengeance, as my mother once said. Duty must come now." meaning she was born of a mortal womb.

If you're going to attempt to make the connection then it's only natural she would use a form associated with the legend at least once, no? That's like me associating an Iguana with poseidon lord of horses.

Flemeth never actually tricked anyone. She's manipulative surely but so are Anora, morrigan,Arl howe,Isabella...ect and so on.It is a shaky foundation.to build a theory on.

Hm. In numerous mythologies and religions, there are gods/divine entities that are said to be the mothers of other such entities (conversely, there are a whooooole lot of gods who are fathers): Demeter, Frigga, Isis, Yemaya, and even Mary, of the Christian faith. So a powerful being referring to his/her "mother" may not necessarily mean that said mother was human/mortal.

Also, Flemeth is a shapeshifter. We've seen her in both dragon and human forms. We don't know if one or the other is her "true" state, or if she can shift into other forms. It's possible that she can.

Our information on her is limited to what she herself utters with tongue in cheek, what her daughters have told us from their own perspectives and angles, and what legends and lore have been collected. That could just be a grand collection of stories with some truths hidden amongst the words. When you've lived for many, many years, you might be able to amass quite a bit of embellishment.

Within her exists the realm of possibility. Maybe she's just a dragon who shapeshifts into a human. Maybe she's Mythal or Fen'Harel or some other being from the elven pantheon. Maybe she's an Avvar goddess. Maybe she's just the most powerful living mage in all of Thedas. She could be several of those things, or none at all. *shrug*

Nay, morrigan says she was told by her mother that flemeth was married to the poet olsen before the lord of highever conobar killed him.In retaliation she called upon spirits to exact vengence then spoke to a demon.Flemeth adds credibility to this by stating she was once young and beautiful like morrigan (In her original form) and men killed for her.Fen'Harel, a god/spirit begging for help from other spirits and being possesed by a demon is too outlandish. The proof points to flemeth being born a mortal woman.

And Flemeth and Morrigan have never been known to fabricate a story? Stretch the truth? Engage and employ hyperbole, fiction, falsehood, or manipulate emotion?

Well, ok. <_<
