They shouldn't even be on the verge of extinction. They should just be simply extinct. As soon as they outlived their use, they should have been pushed back to Tuchanka, and the Council races should have rained nuclear hellfire on every last Krogan man, woman, and child. Tuchanka should have been made a nuclear wasteland, uninhabitable for the next 10,000 years. Every aspect of life on that planet exterminated. A few hundred krogan should have been removed from the planet as test subjects, and to serve as warnings against the rest of the savage creatures of the galaxy. The history of the krogan people should have been wiped from every text, from every database. The name Krogan should have been transformed into a synonym for savage. No one should even be allowed to say the word Tuchanka without the punishment of death!

by that logic mankind should be extinct as well, we have done far worse to ourselves than the krogan ever did.

The difference is that none of those races individually are powerful enough to challenge the combined forces of the galaxy. Due to the speed of Krogan reproduction, along with all their other physical advantages, coupled with their biologically aggressive drives, they pose a greater threat to galactic stability because left unchecked, they could very well doom the galaxy.

Oh no! Big Scary Krogan! KILL IT! Oh no, maybe we should try and change the crucible so we can use synthesis to make us all part Krogan? I wasn't aware superior biology should be punished by death.

Of course biological superiority shouldn't be punished by death, but of the Krogans are going to repeatedly use said superiority to commit terrible atrocities on the galaxy, we really don't have much of a choice.

I think you missed the point entirely.

I didn't know that humans engaged in nuclear warfare against themselves, and transformed our homeworld into a nuclear crater, because of our savagery.

The accurate response would be "none."

Either way, if you have enough faith that after a short period of cooperation, the krogan will completely change their ways, and without the dire circumstances of a Reaper invasion, will maintain this peace indefinitely, then you're 100% entitled to make that choice in your playthrough. But I'm not that optimistic and personally would not take such a risk. I've stated that I believe they deserve a chance, but just restoring their full fertility after a short period of co-operation is quite naive, to me. Nonetheless, again, it's your own choice and I won't argue it.

111987's response also hit the nail on the head.

You only need to Krogan in the short term while the Crucible is being built. If the Crucible fails then nothing matters anyway.

Curing the genophage won't bring you any extra reinforcements because Krogan children don't mature in a few months. Therefore, it's best to deceive the Krogan, defeat the Reapers, and then annihilate the Krogan race.

During the Tuchanka missions, around middle parts of the game, how come you are so sure that the Crucible would work right, instanly end the war and if it doesn't nothing else matters?

Talk about military mind.

Edit: I figured it out now.  OP is Logain Mac Tir in Mass Effect Universe. Memories of the past clouded his vision and he thinks the real threat is Orlesians, not the Blight.

Wrex said himself Shepard would become a legend to the Krogans, meaning humanity will become a legend in helping cure the Krogans. Hence, why would anyone ever attack humanity? They might attack everyone else, but not humans.

After speaking to Eve and seeing the ruins on Tuchanka I did feel a little guilty about sabotaging the cure. But ultimately I don't think the krogan can be trusted, even with Wrex in charge I think they'd go back to their old ways. There is no evidence to suggest the krogan have become less violent since the genophage, all its done is given the krogan reason to want revenge against the other races.

There are plenty of krogan out there willing to get revenge on the galaxy. Curing the Genophage is what you do if you want to screw over the galaxy...again. Not that it matters much in the end, since Shepard does that him/herself anyway.

The Genophage was only required when the Krogan were the only true military might in the known galaxy. They had no equals. The Turians were brought in to fight them, but they still weren't ready at the time. Now there are Humans and Turians there, both of whom have powerful millitaries. The Salarians, the Asari and the Geth aren't useless either.

Oh, stop that! Cerberus is pro-human, this user is, clearly, anti-alien. There is a difference.

Being worried about a future agressive expansion of the krogan is justified. Calling for their extermination is going too far.

I'm not anti-alien. The civilized races like the Council are worthy of admiration and imitation.

The savages like the Krogan, Vorcha, and Yahg need to be purged.

Burn Heretics, Kill Mutants, Purge the Unclean! FOR DA EMPEROR!! Oh, sorry, wrong universe. But krogans are much likely Warhammer40000 orcs, than Warcraft orcs.

Maybe they don't deserve extinction, but theirs population needs to be controlled. Not 1000 new for one pregnancy.
